Marjorie literally changed my life. Her classes are wonderful and she is an excellent teacher, but it's her investment in her students that makes her extraordinary. She helped me more personally and professionally than anyone in my life has. Now two years after I graduated, she still contacts me to see how I'm doing. She is a gift of a human being.

This nearly 4 hour, once per week seminar was grueling. At least one person usually fell asleep per class. However, she is an excellent professor and her enthusiasm is infectious. Not a lenient grader; an A from her is definitely not a mean feat. However, she will almost always reward thoughtful, honest effort.

She is seriously one of the nicest people ever and on top of that she is an amazing teacher.All the readings for her courses are interesting and well thought out and she is very knowledgeable about the subject. She always encourages thoughtful answers from her students which in turn encourages alot of learning. Her classes are hard but worth it.

I absolutely love Marjorie. She's very demanding as far as the workload goes but believe me: you will learn A LOT. It's such a shame that she will be gone for a year, the philosophy department will suffer without her. If you want someone passionate about philosophy, Marjorie is your woman.

Marjorie is easily the best professor I've had so far at Purchase simply because she loves what she does and challenges each student to understand difficult material. I feel the people that don't like her usually don't like the material, and don't like to be challenged in a way that is ultimately extremely beneficial

Every student has a few teachers that changed the way they thought & opened their eyes to something new. Marjorie did that for me. She was a brilliant teacher. I had her over 2 years ago, but in retrospect, I see that her class was easily one of the most important of my entire college career. Highly recommended.

She was the only teacher in my entire life that ever (wrongly) accused me of handing a paper that I didn't really write because it seemed "too good". I have never been more offended by a professor. She was also my advisor for a quick minute, a time in which she AGAIN doubted my abilities by discouraging me from taking a class in which you had to 'apply' to get in because she didn't think I would get the professor's approval. (I did apply and got in and got an A... and got a new advisor).
