Hes not such a bad teacher, but assigns loads of work. You have to read a new chapter just about every class and the chapter is about 50 pages. Then you get quizzed 10 questions on the chapter on very specific events which makes his quizzes hard to pass. His essays are ridiculous; hard to get a B, but impossible to get an A. I wouldnt take again

Mark "Bishop" Newell loves to talk. He rambles on and on, but the guy knows his history. Make sure you read the chapter to do well on the quizzes. Field trip paper, environmental project, book report, and small assignments, plus a final. I suggest him if you really love history, but if not, stay away. The BISHOP is in the building

Comment:
Very arrogant. Kept calling himself a "Historian." Rambles on and on about pointless topics that are not even relevant to the class. Speed teaches the last 15 minutes of class. But, he does tell you what he expects. Just read the assigned chapter and you shouldn't have a problem on the weekly quiz. Get used to writing papers in "Chicago" style!!

Easily the worst professor I have had at college so far. Does not allow for any opinions other than his own and takes egotism to a whole new level. Talks the entire class, requires way more work than there should be for a general education class. Grading is ridiculous also. Stay away.

Not recommended. Requires a field trip, however this trip is to be done on YOUR time with a 5 page paper due afterward. Grades papers very strictly just because he's that good at writing I guess, who knows. The class is US HIST2 but it might as well be "Useless facts about New Jersey and everything else" with the way he teaches.

He is a nice guy, but a little on the crazy side. he's really passionate about history but he also spends a lot of time going off on tangents. i wouldn't recommend him, but he is not the worst teacher ever. the weekly quizzes are a little ridiculous but otherwise the class isn't horrible. don't make it your first choice though.

Run, Run as fast as you can from this guy. What an arrogant jerk. He rambles on half the class then speed teaches the last 15 mins. If you challenge him, you will fail, or at best C. Run?

He is a really nice guy, but so crazy. We had to write a paper the first class - pass or fail. You had to pass it by a certain date or you have to withdraw from the course. He grades hard and I don't think he gives out A's. His class is hard and I didn't like it at all. Stay awayyyyy!

This man is absolutely INSANE. He makes ridiculous demands on his students. He acts as if the course is the only on you have and you have an intinite amount of time to devote to it. People in the class have read the chapters twice and still failed quizzes. He makes you travel for papers. AVOID THIS CLASS!!! It's more like a 400 level then a Gen Ed.

His expectations are ridiculous. There is a ridiculous amount of work and he is nit picky. He refuses to give out an A (will pick smallest detail just to give you an A-). Quizzes are the only easy part. Goes off on tangents. No food or cell phones allowed.

A rediculous amount of work for a 106 level class. more than my 200 level classes. Also, if you have a night class with him, don't expect to be aloud to eat, and his very anti cell phones. Over all, he's a nice guy and I think he means well but his ecpectations of his students are way too high.

Not a good class to take for an introduction... not even good to take if your a history major. hard quizzes on a lot of reading, which he seemingly just pulls randomly out of the book without even knowing himself. Not interesting lectures either... definately not do-able for a 3 and a half hour class. although he will pass you if you show intere

in class lectures are fine, if kinda boring. quizzes entirely on reading, falls behind extremely far, so the last class covers like 2-3 chapters and 300 years. final is SO hard im studying now. write and MEMORIZE page outline of western civ, along with essay, short answer, mutliple choice. tough papers with illegible grading too. avoid.
