Dean Hershock is a great guy. Good sense of humor, reasonable with grading and assignments. A bit of reading, but he picks interesting books that, if you give them a chance, they may hook you easier than most assigned reading. Would recommend any of his classes to a friend!

Best professor at Dearborn. Ashame I will no longer be able to take his courses, but I know he will continue inspiring people no matter what he is doing. He is the only professor I have encountered who seemed sincerely passionate about his field and I could not help but become enthralled in history. Wonderfully quirky man, very easy to talk to.

Best teacher I had all semester, which is crazy because he is the Dean of CASL! He was real cool and understanding, easy to get a hold of, easy to talk to, let you call him Marty and made history interesting and fun. There are no typed notes or powerpoints, so you have to pay attention every lecture. I would take him again if possible for sure!

I have never been compelled to rate a professor on this website. Marty Hershock is a great professor, and I wish there were mor like him. Very straight forward, take home exam/esaays. Very laid back guy, he understands that Michigan history isnt your life. Would Highly recommend him.

Amazing professor. His lectures are interesting, he is fair, friendly, and he really knows his stuff - and knows how to deliver it in a way that makes sense. Hist 3601 - lot of writing, but most of the test material came right from his notes. Attending every class and taking good notes was very very helpful. He gives great lectures.

Makes lectures really interesting. The textbook is not really needed as he goes over the information you need to know. We also had the option of having take home exams or doing them in class. Two books reports, which are easy as long as you actually read the books. Highly recommended.

Overrated. He now gives take home exams that he grades much harder than an in-class exam. Interesting lectures though for 8:00AM. Has a sign in sheet on random days, so show up. Those who do not participate in class will receive a 'C' for their participation grade. Don't buy the book - never opened it once.

the CUTEST teacher ever, very enthusiastic and loves his job...he's also a funny story teller -- class is boring but all the tests are take home & there are a few papers, however he lets you submit them early and he lets you rewrite them...a must take!

Very good teacher. He does require you to read a lot of books, but tends to choose more interesting books, which is helpful. Very willing to help students. Good sense of humor, understands students have other classes and a life as well. Not a really hard grader, but you do have a couple papers to write. I would recommend this teacher.

Marty is the coolest guy in the world. He really likes what he teaches, and he wants his students to share his passion. I never read any of the textbooks and still got an A, because he is a great lecturer. And he's cute so that's a plus too. Definitely reccomended!
