I'm not a geography student, but took this course as an elective - so glad I did! Maycira is an excellent professor who's passion for remote sensing makes the lectures really engaging. Her lectures & slides provide thorough coverage of material required for success in the labs.

Comment:

Maycira was an unreal prof. She was just super cool and so passionate about remote sensing, it quickly became my favourite class. She marks really fairly on the midterm and always checks to make sure everyone understands each concept. If you don't, her office hours are always useful. I would recommend her 100%.

Comment:

Really loved this class. She tries to get the whole class involved, which helped me remember key points. Also makes an effort to prepare us for future classes and work terms. I will definitely be taking more classes with her.

Comment:

I have to say she's really good at teaching! Both of the lectures and slides are helpful. The exam is OK, she only tests on basic theories. But you need to work hard for the lab. She also talked about future career, scholarship and master studies of students to give us better understanding of the current situation which I found was helpful.

Maycira is a great teacher. Very motivational to get you to come to class. Remote sensing was my least favourite before being taught by her. The class is not easy but the material was very interesting to me.

Maycira is an excellent professor, if you show an interest in her class, she'll show an interest in you. It's not the easiest class, but she explains the concepts very clearly. I had no interest in remote sensing before I took this class, and now I can't get enough.

Maycira is very passionate and deticated, which i find is immensely important in a professor. She is very thorough, constantly reviewing past material. She does, however, move extremely fast through material. Notes are posted online though, so you can study them later! Midterm and final were fair! Overall good professor

Not that bad of a prof. Lectures and examples are easy to follow, although she doesn't speak well/clearly at times. Tests are simple if you read her notes and understand the lab exercises.

Not a good prof. She was not helpful in her office hours, speaks very fast, wasn't particularly friendly and not clear at all when explaining to us what the key things are to study for the exam. Not a good professor overall.

I think some of the comments here are unfair! I found Maycira to be very helpful when asked - I had her for 3 courses at UVIC, all of them difficult because she actually expects you to understand the concepts instead of regurgitating facts - what a crazy idea! If you show up for class, work, and try, you can do well. Suck it up this is university!

I too was worried before taking this course, from reading at these reviews. The simple fact is shes only interested in people who are interested in the subject (Remote Sensing), and are applying themselves. I found it no problem to get assistance outside of class, or even to discuss ideas! Take it seriously, and she'll do everything to help you!

After reading past comments, I was worried about this class. But Maycira pullled through. She was actually prepared, and she really wanted the class to learn all the material she was teaching. Slides are on the web which makes studying easy and the concepts are pretty basic simple. But overall i think she did a pretty good job teaching course.
