Sweeney is a great professor, but be prepared to spend money on this class. You'll be buying textbooks AND printing out materials for almost every single class period; you'll use the materials for that one class and never look at them again. She doesn't allow laptops/tablets. We've had some great discussions in class and it's not crazy difficult.

Dr. Sweeney is so far the best teacher I've had at UNCW. She makes class fun and exciting everyday. She gives great written feedback on essays and is always willing to help. Expect a good amount of homework every night and be ready to do a lot of reading. This isn't a class you can b/s your way through, but if you work hard, you'll see the rewards.

Fantastic professor! She tries very hard to ensure that your writing is at its very best, but not in a demeaning, pessimistic way. Very supportive, positive and always helpful. By all means, take her classes.

Prof Sweeney is a young professor in the best way - she is really understanding and easy to have a conversation with, more like a friend than a professor. Her assignments were refreshingly different to anything else I had to do and she's not a harsh grader if you actually work on your papers. She's really passionate about her work, a great teacher!

If you are taking an English class you signed up to THINK. If you are not getting an A in Sweeney's class it's because your analyses are not deep enough. She wants growth from her students. Not complacency. If you're only interested in the grade, don't bother. But if you want to learn, take her class. You can really learn and grow because her.

had her for YA Lit, Prof Sweeney is SO passionate and enthusiastic about English. She is truly excited about what she teaches and wants her students to find the same. She also spends a lot of time giving students feedback on their papers, and while she is a tough grader, she made it clear how to improve. I ended up wanting to keep the books too!

Dr. Sweeney is the best professor I've taken in my four years at UNCW. She is indeed quite difficult and expects the best from her students, so I don't recommend taking her unless you're passionate about English and writing. But if that is your interest and you do take her, you won't be disappointed!

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Sweeney. She is such a wonderful person who is truly passionate about her job and that shines through as she teaches. She actually cares about her students, too. I have learned so much from her class and hope I can take her again. If you can, take her. She's the best professor I've ever had.

Dr. Sweeney really knows her stuff and wants you to be involved, but the material can be quite difficult. There were two 4+ page papers, 2 (bluebook) tests, and journal entries. There is a lot of reading, writing and analyzing, but she will help you to no end. Her advice is great. Don't take as a basic requirement, though. It's kind of tough.

Dr. Sweeney is not easy, but she IS a good teacher.I learned more about how to write an effective research paper from her than from any other professor I've had.She pushes people, and if you're willing to be pushed, you can improve your writing dramatically.I recommend any of her classes to students who actually want to learn something.

I thought this class was gonna be a snap (WRONG). It is hard to keep your eyes opened in there. It was a constant battle. She is so borring! If she has ran out of things to talk about she'll go thru her notes to find something to talk about just to keep you till the bitter end. Take the other lady! I heard shes much easier and fun!!

This woman is truly revolting. She assumes that a student’s life revolves around only her class. She captures pettiness and irrelevancy perfectly. Nothing is ever good enough for her and her syllabi and class descriptions fail to specify not only what she expects from students but also what the class is simply about. Her lectures and discussion

I have had her for 3 classes now and still cannot figure out what this woman wants. She may understand what she's talking about, but she could not articulate it to save her life. If you ask her a question she will beat around the bush until she thinks she has filled her word quota of the day. I'm not saying she's dumb, but she definitely should not be teaching because she lacks the ability to....teach. She can't answer questions or explain her assignments, meeting face to face only confuses u more!

I think Dr. Sweeney is very tough, but effective. She is a "nerd," (as previously stated) but she really knows her stuff. She's brilliant and I admire her. She is very helpful if you go speak to her one-on-one, but you have to be willing to ask the question. She may be smart, but she's no mind-reader.
