i had a great time learning about sex and gender from a sociological perspective. lectures are engaging and lively. material is VERY relevant to everyday life in society. he wrote the textbook, and lectures in a similar style. 2 written exams in blue books; short and long answer form. grading based on which TA gets your exam; not very standardized.

Comment:

Kimmel is a really enthusiastic professor and talks about issues that are actually relevant and interesting. It was great learning about sex from a sociological perspective. I really recommend him as a professor and the TA was incredibly kind and helpful. Only 1 exam, and 2 papers with optional attendance and the reading is not overwhelming.

He is a great professor and says things clearly. However, his TA's are horrible. I went on this site and saw the reviews but I though I would give them the benefit of the doubt. One of the biggest mistakes. Their grading is ridiculous. Plus, I am paying all this money for a professor to teach me when he doesn't even grade the papers. DO NOT TAKE!!!

Would love to meet this man in person. I've been watching videos of his lectures and appreciate his ability to convey gender studies topics in a way that is relatively non-threatening to men without sugarcoating any of the material. Thanks for working to achieve a more gender-equal society! Always refreshing to see men involved in gender studies.

he is hilarious, his classes are awesome, i actually looked forward to them & tried not to miss any. definitely learned a lot. he wrote the book & it's an interesting read, esp with his funny comments. however, the TA grading is very unfair, i feel. i deserved higher than a B-.

loved the lectures but he only grades based on the papers [graded by TA's only], and his TA's are horrible graders.. he doesnt even see your paper, unless you go through a crazy appeal process.

I watch and show his videos in my college class in Nevada and I love his sense of humor and the way he makes gender privelidge visible. My Soc 101 students here in Las Vegas benefit from his teaching!

He is a very good lecturer, and I learned a lot of useless statistics, however, the assignments for the papers are unclear. Since he grades on only TWO papers, it makes it hard to recover if you do poorly. I wouldn't take him again, and I've definitely had far better SOC professors than him.

The prof might be entertaining but wat's the use? Our grades are based on papers which are not graded by him but his horrible TA's. Prof shud atleast grade 1/2 of the class. Prof was not there towards end of semester which made it difficult to discuss on the TAs gradings.

If u r expecting A dont take him. Guidelines for writing the papers were highly ambiguous. The TA's are useless&incompetent. Got D- in I paper & when I went to inquire, they changed it to A-. He said the grades'll be based on 3 papers, but he cancelled the 3rd, which left the student with no chance of improving the grade. Stay away frm this class!!

Really fun classes. Kimmel's entertaining and interesting. You'll definitely want to attend class, even though attendance isn't mandatory. You don't really need the texts until you have to write the papers. Watch out for the ta's, though.. one is the devil when it comes to grading.

Amazing lecturer. This is one of those classes where I just loved to sit and listen/learn with no pressure. Really interesting lecturer and Very FUNNY. He seems less interested in talking after class. Papers are easy, quote the book alot.
