Honestly, the worst professor I have encountered at C of C. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is unhelpful, and will simply tell you to 'keep up with the homework' to do well in the class and then make tests which are nothing like the homework. Basically, if you'd like your grade to be based on more than 35 math problems, avoid him at all costs.

HECK NO. Seriously. I'm a straight A student, and a class like this should not make me aim for a C, ever. All the other students who have a different professor than him are having it like heaven, so they say. Do NOT take Dr. Norton. He is by far one of the worst professors I've seen. Intelligent, but not great.

I tried this professor out even though he had bad ratings . After taking his test I realized he has fixed grades and is vague in how he grades. If you truly want learn and understand discrete math don't take this guy. He has a fixed grading scheme and takes away points on his subjective nuances by which he thinks he is not bias in grading.

He is not a very good professor. He is a nice guy but he is not willing to help a lot. He only has 2 tests and about 6 quizzes so if you mess one up you're pretty screwed. His teaching is not all the great either...

He's a really nice guy, who obviously wants his students to do well. He did lots of proofs, which I found really interesting, but I could see others finding them annoying. He gives lots of real life examples and really tries to get you to relate to the material.

One of the very worst teachers I have ever had. His lectures are obtuse and totally focused on proofs. He likes to throw problem types that you've never seen or worked with on the tests.

worst math teacher I have EVER had. He confused the crap out of all of us. Avoid at all cost. I was an A student in high school/math tutor and came here with him and struggled. He knows what he is talking about but doesn't explain it well at all.

Horrible math teacher! Avoid at all costs! He knows his material yes, but his teaching skills are scatterbrained. Teaches only by using examples. Do not take if you want an easy stat class!

Took him for 250,350,530,531. He's a great teacher. Gives fair tests because he wants his students to do well. Take him if you have the chance. If you take him for 104 he will give you a 10 minute piece of HW each class which will most probably be copied directly from your upcoming test. In upper level classes he lets you choose the test date.

Comment:

Dr Norton an extremely intelligent professor. He wants to see all of his students do well, and he is more than willing to help anyone everytime they ask for help. In his tests he ONLY ever covers the basic principles, and NEVER gives any trick questions liek other math teachers. Learn the basics from each chapter and you will get a good grade.

knows what he's talking about.... doesn't communicate it as well as he could. his handwriting isn't clear and he whistles while he talks. i made a C, but didn't study that much. Don't fret if he's one of the teachers you get stuck with. he's just boring and kinda tough.

Worst Math teacher I have EVER had. I came out of Stats in HS with a 100...probably failed his class. Do not take him. He is unclear, you can not read what he writes and his tests are hard. I am extremely mad that I am coming out of there with a D or F. Nice guy...hard to understand his teaching methods...

very nice and helpful. not that good of a teacher & pretty tough class b/c of this. He is helpful but if you need good explaining and step by step learning not the best. Test aren't too bad and gives partial credit on answers.

Doc Norton isn't a bad prof by any means. He made things understandable and wasn't afraid to speak in layman's terms. And you'll die trying not to laugh at the sudden jerky movements he makes when he realizes he's miswritten something.

He is a great teacher. All of the other ratings on here are people who wanted to get away with out doing anything in his class. He is very helpful and his tests are like 10 questions long. Take him becuase he is easy, and he looks like the math teacher from clueless. He is a cute old man.

extremely hard to understand what hes writing on the overhead projector; tests are really hard..i had to drop the class in February with a Withdrwaw and wouldnt recommend him to non-math majors
