Comment:

Highly recommend for D EQ w Linear Algebra. Matlab and some linear algebra concepts were confusing. LaChance communicates very well over email and Canvas so he makes up for it. During the epidemic he was just as good or better. Just take his class he's cool. It's still Differential Equations so study! Do ask for help and participate.

Prof. Lachance is a great guy, offers HW and chapter help a hour in the math library before class instead of office hours. Test are hard but fair, lecture structure isn't the best. STUDENTS MUST SELF TEACH. He'll go over examples in class very well but wont review concepts very well. so note taking is literally examples with no idea how you did it.

Is a very enthusiastic teacher, and he does a good job of approaching problems from many perspectives. No HW or quiz's, only tests and a lab. Is a fair grader.

Teaches the material in the book without having to look at it--knowledgeable. He starts class by answering questions from the homework & then lectures. You can ask him for help after class. Each test was out of 50 but had 55 ?s on them. (basically he gives you 10%) Lets you use a note card on all tests-believes math is NOT a memorization exercise

This class was composed of surprisingly difficult topics, but LaChance was very understanding, approachable, & helpful. I did fairly poorly on tests (where we could use a notecard), but I managed to get a B based on easy projects, showing up to class, etc. He definitely loves math, and is a really nice guy. I hate math, but I would recommend him.

the hardest math class i've takin to date. this guys tests are so nerve-wrecking and he wastes a lot of class time talking about random stuff. non-recommendable.

Great professor! One of the best at UMD. Class is always fun! But be aware of his tests. Even though it's a math course, there will be true/false questions and fill in the blank. Know your definitions!

This guy is awesome! LOVES the subject and is FABULOUS at teaching it. You have to do A LOT of homework, though. He gives the grade you earn and is eager for students to do well -- gives every opportunity to do so. Take him if you're disciplined about keeping up on the work and need a good foundation in math.

Great teacher! Teaches the fundamental concepts of Calculus very thoroughly. Makes sure everyone understands before moving on to the next section. Always willing to help. Be sure to do all your homework and remember definitions. True and false questions on exam, so study!

This class is ok, if you do your homework. You dont have to turn it in, but if you dont do it, you will fall behind. He puts fill in the blank and true and false questions on his tests, learn all definitions and names! Do all the extra credit at the beginning of the semester, because he won't give you any at the end!

He thinks class is all about some freak show. He avoids explaining the important stuff, then on the test, oops, suddenly it is all there! Sometimes he mentions something for barely 10 seconds, and then it turns out it will be 15 points question on the test!! I dont understand this guy, but sure what he is doing is not teaching!
