Comment:

Nice Professor. Lecture is a bit boring but slides are helpful and reliable. Study guides is helpful for the test make sure to do them. There are a lot of paperwork and there are lab homework every week. Make sure to do all of them asap or they will pile up. 25 points extra credit so take advantage. Very communicative.

Comment:

I had Professor Porteous for spring 2020, he has so much enthusiasm in his lectures, hes super funny and has high energy. Lab was fun and easy, youll only need your lab book, the other books really are not needed. Do the extra credit, study for your exams and youll do fine. Also take advantage of his embedded tutor.

Mr. P is the best prof ever. There is a lot to learn in Bio 11b, so get ready for it. His exams are easy if you study everything he puts on his study guide. Final is comprehensive. Free field trip to morro bay RECOMMEND YOU TO GO. You'll learn a lot from it. XCREDIT is given throughout course. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS! Same with LAB! Take lots of pics

Didnt use the textbook at all only lab book Attend lectures and etc you should pass exams there are 3field trips towards end of semester extra credit Is offered graded by labs exams final research paper notebook and observations of an organism super easy Final is made up of first and second test

Dr. Porteous is an amazing individual but incredibly disorganized. It's hard to follow through in his lectures. Although he isn't as strict on labs and lecture exams compared to other professors, I would highly recommend doing more studying on your own if medicine is your goal. 2 exams, final and 2 lab exams. A couple easy assignments here & there

Dr. Porteous is an amazing instructor. He truly cares for his students and really wants each and everyone to learn. His lectures may go off topic, but whatever he talks about pertains to the chapter in some type of way, and will be on the exam. Not to mention, we get to go to the zoo for cheap & get extra credit pts. He's always willing to help!

Dr. Porteous is one of my favorite professors I have taken. There is a lot to learn in this class so be prepared. The study guides he provides for each exam outline what is going to be on the exam. Do the study guides and add everything from lab into your lab notebook. He is VERY disorganized and his lectures are all over the place. Easy class.

Really passionate about what he teaches. Really makes the class enjoyable and has a hilarious personality. Attendance is not mandatory for lecture but for lab, in order to pass you have to show up to do the work. End of the semester there is some field trips!

Lectures are very informative but its too much information, so I felt lost. Many fun trips where you actually get to interact with the ecosystem. The ppt slides are only pictures and you will have nothing to study from for he quizzes. You really need to research the net on you on and take heavy notes to get a good grade.

Prof Porteous is hands down the best science instructor at Fresno City College and has a genuine passion for teaching. Besides being a great guy he is highly knowledgeable and brings a high level of energy to the classroom everyday. He offers so many points for assignments, projects, participation and extra credit that you are guaranteed an A!

Professor Porteous is highly knowledgeable and has a passion for the subject; however, he is highly unorganized and his lectures tend to drag on. Most of the information in lecture does not help with understanding the material, and it comes to the point that some students just leave early altogether. I used the textbook more than his lectures.

Scott is a G. Honestly such a cool guy and made tha class really enjoyable. Super flexible on turn in dates too. If you talk to him he'll be willing to help you figure out what you need to do to Bump your grade up too. Take his class homies you won't regret.

Mr. Porteous is very influential instructor. I did not enjoy the content of the class, but I certainly enjoyed the instructor. He works hard to make sure his students understand him, and he is usually available to meet with students after class to discuss the material. I would definitely take Porteous!!!!! He is extremely resourceful.

Mr. Porteous is nice teacher and hilarious. He knows his stuff, but he is not an organized teacher he goes all over the place that's the bad thing. Overall good teacher he is there to help you succeed in the class. This class is hard no matter who you take just study hard. Go to his office hours that's the clue to pass his class. Ask qs too

Mr. Porteous is a cool guy, however, his lectures are long and highly unorganized. Although I aced this class, his lectures were a pain to listen to, he goes off topic more often than not, much of the information from lectures does not help understanding and is not on tests. He does try to be funny and has a passion for biology, just can't teach...

I absolutely loved this class! I missed a great deal of time in the semester due to an injury but he helped me get through it! There is alot of work in this class and it pills up at the end. Put as much detail in your lab book as possible and really study for his tests! Even though i missed half the semester i was able to get a B in the class.

Comment:

Mr. Porteous is one of the best teachers for bio11A. He is very smart and funny. Must pay attention to pass and do all the assignments. Also make sure to study in order to do good. He won't give you an easy grade if you don't study. 2 lecture tests, 2 lab tests and a final. Take Porteous if you can you won't regret it.

Comment:

Do the FloraFauna early, same with your lab notebook. The better the lab notebook, the better you do on the lab test. Very little homework. If you don't have the book, read his powerpoints. Whatever he draws on the board, it is more than likely going to be on an exam. Same with the random things he says on trips. Awesome professor.
