Comment:

Grading was only midterm, final, and one group presentation. Lots of readings but the lecture helps dissect them. Amazing class to take if you are interested in womens studies. Best class I have taken at UHM. Very passionate about her work, personality may not work for some people tho. Will take her again. Highly recommended

Comment:

Dr. Koikari is an amazing professor. She cares about you. She wants you to learn. She wants you to get it. She wants you to wake up and smell the injustice, then DO something about it. That being said, her exams are long and she is one tough grader. She expects a lot, but she is more than willing to help you out. Go to office hours. Ask questions.

Take this class if you have a passion for womens studies. If you dont, then I dont recommend. Attendance is mandatory to pass and there are a lot of assignments. Shes a tough grader and the class relies on exam grades.

She's a great teacher who is passionately and knowledgeable in her subjects. Otherwise you have two exams and a group project/presentation. You have to attend class and participate. Shes a touch grader and exams are tricky. Her class was interesting but wont take again because she'll ruin my GPA.

Her class was very knowledgeable and interesting. I really enjoyed the lectures but the exam's were hard. The way she phrased her questions were really tricky, they weren't straight to the point. The class was relatively easy but it was just her exams. I mean if you got passion for women studies go for it!

Definitely didn't expect to learn so much on the intricacies on feminism, culture, and geopolitics. Professor Koikari was definitely a solid choice! I would make sure to take notes during discussions. Personally, I skimmed the readings-and presentations were basically a heavy part of my grade. Don't be afraid to give your two cents on a topic!

Koikari is very knowledgeable about her subject, but be prepared to read, A LOT. For this class she assigns an end of the term group project (which is accompanied by a paper) and a midterm and final. She counts your missed classes against you and missing class will negatively affect your grade. Extremely dense and hard readings

I took several classes with Mire and she never once let me down. She is intelligent, interesting, and contemplative. Her courses forever changed my perspective in life and I am so grateful to have been able to learn from her. Ask questions, do the reading, pick her brain.

Comment:

Persistent with homework and mandatory class attendance. Do no take this class if you have a heavy load; hw and test requires a lot of time reading and digging for the underlying concept. This is the type of course that it is so hard, you have to learn the in's and out's. In all, the concepts taught were very interesting and will stick with you.

Lecture consist of her talking the entire time, non-stop, and monotone. Oh, there are some pauses, so that she could riddle the class on some esoteric historical fact, at which point she laughs at the class for being stumped. In fact, chastises individuals for not knowing when she puts them on the spot. Sets up "review" for test but not helpful.

I really enjoyed this class because it requires a different way of thinking. There are lots of readings so try and keep up. There is one midterm, a group project, and the final. The midterm and final was a bit challenging. There were TF, multiple choice, and essay. Just attend class and keep up with the readings and you should be fine!

Lots of readings but all very relevant. I wasn't interested in WS before this class! Dr. Koikari is knowledgeable and organized. Class was difficult but definitely worth it. She has an great teaching style. Attendance is mandatory!!

This class was interesting and I learned a lot. Prof. Koikare's teaching method was engaging and made it easy to learn. She is very organized. She can be a little harsh and is not an easy grader. If you want an easy class, this may not be the class for you. You will learn a great deal of useful information, though.

Mire is such a nice professor. She's so helpful and willing. You can tell through her teaching exactly how passionate she is about her subject. We went over a lot of itneresting topics so class was always fun. Uses overhead, so we had to write a lot. Tests have essays.

She is an extremely intelligent person, but sometimes exhibits a pretty harsh personality and i think she has a fake laugh. She grades really tough so be prepared...she loves to use the blue books for exams. She'll act differently toward you if you run into her outside of class...kind of cold and strange personality. learned a lot though...

Dr. Koikari is EXTREMELY knowledgeable. She expects a high level of critical thinking and the ability to express those thoughts. She is not the easiest grader, but she's fair. She will take the necessary time to ensure you understand the material. She is sweet and HILARIOUS. I look forward to taking more classes from her.

I've had the best experience with WS teachers and Prof Koikari is one of them! Her lessons are very well planned & she sticks to her syllabus! This is a reading & detail oriented intensive course. Many videos to watch, but pay close attention & participate in group discussions. Attendance is mandatory. It's everything I expected out of a 400 class.
