Very clear at explaining concepts. Listen more than take notes and you will do great. He defies terms in a clear manner and further illustrates their use in context of cellular processes, which makes everything much simpler and easy to remember. Great lecturer and very passionate about the subject.

Not a great lecturer at all. He really cares, but his lectures were confusing and hard to follow. He divides the material in a very odd way. I was on facebook all of lecture and only did well because I read every page of every chapter out of the textbook. Tests are terrible, asks minute details that just have to be straight memorized. Good luck.

Worst professor at BU!!! I don't doubt whether he knows biology, but he does not know how to teach! He will mumble through lecture and expect you to remember every little comment he said. His exams are impossible with random details that just aren't even fair. Avoid him at all costs!

not my favorite professor, not the worst professor. his portion of BI108 is very structured and well-organized, but the class itself/mc exams are tough. I was expecting a C+ to B for a final grade, and came out with a B+ knowing I could still have done much better if I'd spent more time studying. so overall, it's a tough intro class, but manageable

Who designed BI108? If it's not Monette then he does not deserve these bad reviews: BI108 does. I think it says it all when you have 50 minutes for 60 MC question on a course whose lack of direction and depth is mind-numbing. People who do well here are good at mindlessly memorising facts so I ask: who exactly is BU trying to 'weed out'?

He's extremely boring. He's monotone but at least knows his stuff. His tests are extremely hard. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a tutor or study group together. If you want to pass this class you HAVE TO read the book. He doesn't nearly go into enough detail during lecture for the questions he asks on his test.

Key to studying is reading the textbook before and after his lectures. His exams are extremely detailed so know every step of each process and the molecular structures of the key players. When he says "the time spent on x topic corresponds with x% of it on the exam" - don't trust him. If he's mentioned it, it WILL be on the exam.

I like him. He's clear, encourage participation by asking questions at times,a certain amount of jokes.I don't understand why everyone hates him so much maybe bc i personally love cell bio&genetic. He likes to compare/connect knowledge, which is how I study bio.Maybe I'm wrong cuz I got +90% in his part of exams but avg is like 55%

This prof is useless.. tests are extremely specific, yet lecture gives little detail..the only way to succeed in this class is to read the textbook

Lectures are about as interesting as watching grass grow. He speaks in a monotone voice that puts you right to sleep and does not go into detail during lecture yet tests on very specific material. Must read the textbook in order to do well.

Monette is a GREAT professor. Extremely helpful and his tests are very specific but fair. Cell biology is hard, even in the summer course, so you NEED to keep up with the reading and you need more than one day before the exam. It is not impossible to get in the B+ to A rage by any means; if you work hard, you will get the grade.

Professor Monnette is one of the worst lecturers. He speaks with a monotone. He repeats what the diagrams say and doesn't add more information. There is no point in attending classes. Reading the textbook is more interesting and helpful. His tests were detailed and questions weren't based on his lessons. I question how he was hired as a professor.

i have to say that i studied for his class for many many hours and i still wasn't able to pull of a satisfying grade.the averages of tests are really low because the tests are extremely detail.even memorizing the whole book wont help u since the questions on the test come from a national database so it doesnt have to do anything with the lecture.

Monette really knows his stuff. Unfortunately however, you don't learn anything from him that you can't learn from the book. You're better off doing the readings and going to office hours if you have doubts. His tests are almost unfairly hard. Questions are VERY specific. Study the textbook and know EVERY detail if you want to do well.

Monnette is dull as mentioned. He tries to cram so much information into a single exam yet only focuses on a few topics on the actual exam. Not impossible to do well though, just study the slides AND know the text book.

Comment:
This class was extremely dull. Monnette just reads off the slides that he posts for the class on the course website. However, do not rely on just the slides for his exams, as the concepts that he puts on the exam are way more in depth. You pretty much need to know the book in order to get an A on the exams.

Very dry lectures, making it difficult to stay interested. Though I went to lecture, it was pretty pointless, since the material he taught was nowhere near as in depth as the material on the tests...you pretty much need to know the book.

Nonono. I got a solid A in BI107 (even on the exams with the so-called "hard" professors), I did well in AP Bio, and I am struggling to get a C+/B- in this course. His tests are ridiculous.. the questions are very ambiguous, and even if you memorize the textbook & his slides, it's easy to fail. Good luck, I'm convinced that's what you need to pass.
