He chose very well written books. He is a really harsh grader, and his lectures are very dry. He made me feel like a horrible writer. His favorite word is concise. Would not take again.

Grades as if the course was writing in the discipline class when it is not. The grade is not assigned based on how well you know the material.

If you care about your grade and your learning, DO NOT take his classes. Arrogant, snobby and rude. This guy thinks he's the best but has no clue of what's going on. He does not know how to teach, he basically talks to himself. In respect to feedback, he doesn't even know what he sayshe's good at cherry picking. His assignments are extremely vague

Diamant thinks himself is a smart guy, but he is absolutely horrible as a professor. Didn't respect students' opinion and often dominated class with his own speech. Didn't learn much and was a horrible subjective grader. No way I would take class with him again

I ended up in his class by chance- I had no intention of taking Chinese Politics as a first-year seminar. But after only a few lessons, I was inspired to learn more about East Asia. He gives great lectures and the readings he assigns are actually really interesting. He does grade pretty harshly on papers, though.

Comment:
Professor Diamant is incredibly insecure and not familiar with his "supposed" genre of expertise. I called him out on his not understanding founding principles of the Constitution and he pretended to not find my midterm paper in his 2nd mailbox. Don't take him if you want to learn. He's a MORON. He shouldn't be allowed to teach anywhere.

Smart man and interesting material, but can't accept others' opinions or acknowledge things he doesn't know. I referenced (correctly) something relevant he didn't know in front of the class. He then refused to call on me ever again and pretended he didn't receive a midterm paper I'd turned in on time, destroying my grade in his course.

He tends to explain what he expects generally for an assignment and then gives you a lot of free room to work with it, while still expecting high academic standards. I've seen other people say he isn't willing to have his ideas challenged, which is absurd because I wrote a scathing review of one of the articles he wrote which he ultimately accepted

One of the best professors I've had at Dickinson. Yes he is challenging as all professors should be at this level. Assignments and work are straight forward. Tests are based on big ideas and you will do well if you study and understand the material. Do the readings that is key. Diamant knows his material, and his classes are worth the time.

Challenging professor, but good. He can be very intimidating but he knows his stuff on both Israel and China- odd combo but an eccentric guy. Not arrogant, just comes off that way. You have to work hard in his class but he explains everything really well. If you get his praise you know you earned it.

Honestly, I think he's awesome (prof and advisor) and was surprised to see all of the negative comments. you have to do the reading, but a.doable and b.shouldn't be surprising. knows what he's talking about but doesn't flaunt it, really nice guy, helpful, keeps class interesting (not too shabby, though calling a prof "hot" is a tad disturbing ;)

Loves to hear himself talk. Expect the class to always go 5 - 10 minutes longer than it should. Very smart man but that gives way to some arrogance. Uses his brilliance to show you why your point of view might be somewhat right but his point of view is the best one.

The class had no direction. Expectations were unclear and he tells students what he was looking for retroactively. Brilliant man but the brilliance did not translate into effective teaching.

he's an ass, a well learned and very intelligent ass, but still an ass. He's a hard grader especially for an intro. class, and seems to have no problem pushing anyone to their limits just to get them to see his way.
