Comment:
She is a horrible professor and I am not trying to be rude or mean. That's a fact. I completely lost my will to study Chinese after taking her class. If she is happy, then everything will be fine. But if she is not, then she can be really spiteful and biased. Also, she doesn't really care what the student thinks or have to say.

If you are looking to take a FYS,Chinese, or East Asian Studies class with Professor Yang, I strongly recommend you take the course with someone else. She is an unfair grader, biased, and poor representation of the EASN department as a whole. If you get on her bad side, you will stay there.

At the beginning of the year she seemed to be much more competent and enthusiastic but towards the end of the year she became grouchy, aggressive and very rude. She has her favorites and blatantly shows her preference for them over the other students. Don't get on her bad side because regardless of your evidence she'll always think she is right.

Yang is...interesting. Also nuts. She was a Red Guard- no, literally, she wrote a book about it: Spider Eaters. So don't get on her bad side! Definitely plays favorites. Either work really hard or say wo yao pijiu every 5 seconds.

She is a very nice, helpful professor. She made me truly enjoy Chinese and she definitely knows her stuff seeing as she's Chinese herself. She is an odd grader, but I've never taken Chinese before, and I can easily manage her class.

I liked Yang a lot. She's very willing to help if you seek her out. Its true that she fudges grades a bit, but that can work in your favor. Its not that she fudges, but she'll give you what you deserve with less than 100% emphasis on the test grades themselves. If you don' already have an interest in Mandarin, she probably won't spark one, though.

she's a very good teacher overall, but chinese student beware: she likes to play favorites on subjective assignments, seems to fudge grades a bit, and makes it somewhat obvious to the rest of the class if she doesn't like someone.

Rae Yang is a great professor. Aside from being very knowledgeable about China, she knows a lot about Wu Tang. Several times during the semester she laid down a tight freestyle about Ah-Q.

A very fun class. The pace is quick probably 20-30 new Chinese characters per week but with a little bit of studying its not hard at all.
