Nick Smith was easily my favorite professor from college. He is the smartest man I have ever met, and he makes you realize the potential you have within you by challenging you and pushing you out of your comfort zone a little bit. Dont take if youre looking to coast through. Do take if you want a life changing experience.

Best professor I've had at the university after four years of being there. Reason I didn't transfer schools. I've taken almost all of his classes. If you can, do it. His classes are hard, but it'll change your life.

Nick is fantastic. He knows exactly what he is talking about and is very interesting. He's always willing to help too. But be prepared to write a TON. Weekly 1000 word papers, a 2500 midterm and a 4000 final. You can rewrite papers to boost your grade, but you never have time with a new paper every week. Overall, great but very difficult class.

There are few professors that students will actively promote to their friends, and Nick Smith is one of them. The weekly 1000 words can be daunting, but topics are often so interesting you'll want to write more. Do NOT skip classes-they are far more useful for writing papers than the readings. High quality work = more leniency with late papers.

Easily the best professor I have ever had. So enthusiastic and loves philosophy. He knows his stuff and makes the most complicated readings really clear. Plays Devil's Advocate and really makes you think every class. He's an awesome mentor as well.

You can rewrite any of your papers, which comes in very handy in that class! He keeps things interesting and is willing to talk to you about any paper. He's a really nice guy; probably the smartest man I've ever met. It's daunting at first, but you get into the rhythm of the class quickly. I recommend, and I'm far from an art aficionado!

Whether it's a discussion of the impact of art on contemporary philosophy or evaluating human life as a commodity, his classes will change your life. Smith is in a league of his own-easily the best professor at UNH.

AMAZING. This guy made me into a philosophy major while teaching a subject - art - that I care zip about. It's frikken hard, 3 pages a week due on Sunday! - but you'll learn more in that semester than in the rest of your college career. Take it from me - I transfered to philosophy after taking that class. If you're ready to work, TAKE IT! :-)

You write 1,000 words a week, plus papers. It's brutally hard, but completely worth it. He'll take late papers, and while he gives you reams of comments, I suspect many are cut and pasted... In general, one of the top 3 professors at UNH (after Ferber and Frankfurter. High praise).
