I liked this class, in spite of it being very old-school lecture. Instructor is fair, but you have to work. I learned more here than any other class ok this semester. Would recommend.

Very unprofessional, has a law degree, something he brags about but is currently out of touch with both law and geography. Rude disorganizied, needs to retire so the department can improve. both him and Cullen bring the dept down. The entire dept needs to be brought up to par. Equipment should be replaced lab access needs improvement.....

Very knowledgeable about subject. Professional demeanor, although approachable. Subject matter could be organized better - somewhat confusing - jumps back & forth. Tests are difficult. Heavy lectures & note-taking.

Previous ratings are unfair. He is probably the only Geographer with a law degree, therefore he is extremely knowledgable in environmental, water rights, and public land laws which is essential if your're working in the field. He expects attendence and participation but I've had more demanding 100 level professors.

The class was very boring and it was difficult to take knowledge from it that will apply to my career or research. He's very boring and strict, in a negative way. Some professors know how to teach and bring the subject to life. He is certainly not one of them. Perhaps the opposite.

Geography is a challenging course (no it's not just about maps kids). Matthews takes attendance, so get to class. His lectures are on Power Point and available online. He is knowledgeable and helpful, if strict about course rules.
