He's a cool guy with a lot of stories, but I'm not paying $1,000s of dollars for stories. We just talked about news quizzes the entire time and not anything about how to actually report and do our jobs

From the get go he had no consideration for our time. Told us not to get a job that had us on a schedule and that we'd be working outside of class 12 hrs/week because of dumb assignments (ie media badges). Meeting with him is a pain bc he goes on tangents about himself that only vaguely have something to do with what you're there for. Bad class.

I won't even mention how awful Images is. I will mention that he grades you based on how much he likes you, not the overall quality of your work. I will also mention the fact that he is completely unavailable to students when they need help and is rude. He acts like his students are stupid, even though he doesn't teach them how to do anything.

I actually liked this class. Paul was incredibly helpful and is pretty cool if you talk to him in his office.

I wasn't a fan of images of news or what Paul was teaching. I don't think print journalism majors should have to take this class, but I guess I can't blame him since it's a course requirement. He did help me out when I needed the extra time to complete my flash project and had some interesting points, but overall the class size was too big for him

I don't like Paul as a teacher because he's CONSTANTLY trying to be my friend. As a print journalist, I'm often offended by what he teaches. (If it bleeds it leads, etc) He drops you from the class if you miss the first session. But he'll sorta help you out if you complain enough. Fairly incompetent as a teacher. The class is terrible.

I have to stand up for Paul. i would not have made it to where i am a year out of school if nto for his advice. He runs his class like a pro newsroom, if you can't take that, seriously reconsider being in this business, you won't get far.

I've had Paul for a teacher 3 times. Although he can be unclear in his teaching and sometimes drone on, he is by far one of the most helpful professors when it comes to reporting. He knows his stuff and really wants his students to learn. If you complain about him such it up wimps. Study.

Do yourself a favor and take this class from another professor.. He is unclear and enjoys the melodrama of students being angry at him for being unclear. Nice guy, but has a few years to go before he can teach. Don't be a guinea pig for him, find a way around his class.

Paul Niwa sucks! What other teacher would fail people by midterms and cause many to cry?! His grading..totally unfair. My big riff..when the big story is the city shut down cuz of snow and you do a story on snow...good. Not for Paul Niwa..I got a D. Every station had reporters covering the snow.

Niwa's a good professor with lots of experience. I was nervous before taking the class cuz people said he was horrible, but after a whole semester, I have no idea where some of that criticism came from. I'd recommend him!

Back to life, back to Niwality..Before signing up for this class I peeped his profile on this site. Y'all made him seem like Micheal Baldwin from the Young and the Restless I thought I'd have to go to war with this cat! Far from it! Not only is Paul real, he's nice. He cares. Take Paul, study hard.

The lectures were alright, but he's no good in the video lab. And he takes things too personally, and that affects his teachings. I think he's a nice guy, but not beliveable. And the 3 number grading system is crap!

Paul tries to be nice, but in the mean time, he gives no direction, doesn't teach a damn thing, and expects you to pick it up amongst his vagueness. Seriously, this is the biggest waste of time. Ever. Didn't think that was humanly possible, but evidently, Paul Niwa has proven me wrong. Again.
