Comment:
Had him for MGIS 317 at U of Calgary. His lectures aren't of much help. It's really hard to obtain any information from and his slides are of no use. Tests aren't the easiest and he marks hard, especially the group project. Reads off a paper for his lectures. He is however availble for 'help' often but its not of much use. I'd avoid if possible tbh

One of the worst profs I've taken at the university. Just plain awful. Wouldn't answer questions clearly, wouldn't give the answers to exams or assignments even after getting bad marks and wanting to improve. Taught in confusing and boring manner and you leave the class feeling that you've only been taught vague ideas with no idea how to use them

Ray's lectures are decent. Nothing special. However, where the sh*t really hits the fan is in the evaluation. From the exams being too long for the time period with a clumsily-attempted "make-up" quiz (inherently punishing people based on question completion order), to the group eval system that inherently pits people against each other... Terrible

Exams are really tough!!!! Labs are boring and the third assignment spent me thousands of hours to do!! The lectures are really not helpful. But he is really a good guy.

One of the worst classes I've ever taken. The man is very passionate about the subject, but his lecture delivery is boring and amounts to reading off slides. What made me dislike him the most was that every single time I went to office hours he was rude and condescending. He would keep saying "cmon!" when trying to figure something out. HARD EXAMS

Ray is a great guy and is super passionate about MIS which makes this mandatory class actually interesting. Going to class is mandatory, but there's lots of group work and discussions in class so the time goes by quickly. Midterm averages are around 46, but its scaled. His class is actually relevant and I learnt a lot more than I thought I would

I didn't really enjoy his class at all. It seemed like he would talk about things that weren't related to the course material. The average for the midterm was 47.. and making us purchase some iclicker was indeed a bad move on his part. In getting a good mark, i wouldn't worry too much because it's curved. Easy B+/A-

Wasn't a big fan of this prof. I learned some cool things in the lab, but that's about it. The lectures were just inadequate to my standards.

1. The textbook is useless except for random inclass quiz that he gives. 2. he barely talks about the assignments nor exams during lectures, and his lecture slides are totally useless. I expected this course to be interesting however this class does not help me understand anything about MIS.3 this course requires an extensive amount of memorization

Reads off of the slides, tests directly from the end of the slide notes. Textbook is useless, class is rather useless in general. Straight memorization from the slides, so be prepared for that. This class could be taught a lot better with application, but sadly no.

Ray's lectures cover little to no material, however classes are mandatory because of iclicker questions (he's still very entertaining). If you're an excellent word-for-word memorizer, you'll do well on his written exams. You DO NOT need the textbook at all!! Memorize his key questions and included answers and you're guaranteed a good mark.

Spends time talking nonsense, then flies through the slides. Assignments are 40% of the course, but I found them to be extremely easy. Midterm and Final are 98% straight memorization from the slides. Other than diagrams that actually test what you've learned exams are straight memorization of the "key questions" from the slides. You retain nothing.

He's a beauty. Class is a lot of fun. His exams are all short/long answer memorization type questions. If you study hard you will crush the class average(usually 50-60.Assignments count for 40% of your grade but the average is high and stdev is tiny. Do well on the exams and your set. Rays one of the good ones.

Ray seems like a decent person, but he does not use class time effectively. He reads off the slides instead of attempting to explain the material. He also writes tests based on American teaching methods: straight memorization and nothing but straight memorization. For us Canadian students, his required class is a tough pill to swallow.

I don't like this prof. Yes, he does make class interesting but I do not learn anything in his classes except stories of his life. Exams are all written, so lots of memorization and details needed. I also find it irritating that I need to purchase an i clicker for this course, which I'll never use again.

Decent guy. Irritating and rambling lectures, occasionally helpful but mostly annoying - attendance needed for in-class activities. Likes to talk if you go see him. This class could be good, but it isn't since, except for the assignments, the focus is on memorization rather than skill development. Course needs an overhaul, but Ray was all right.

Ray was a terrible professor. Talked more about his personal life than anything relevant to the course. His exams tested minute portions of the courses that had little to do with anything relevant and were simply a test of what random facts you could memorize. Stay away.
