Comment:

unacceptable is the only way to put it. i'm not sure how he's still a professor for such a highly accredited institution. he's rude, never emails students back, and his exams are unrealistic. he shows a movie every day and expects you to absorb every ounce of it. the study guides are irrelevant to the actual tests. not helpful at all!

Comment:

He can be funny at times but sometimes he can be sarcastically rude. Class isn't that interesting mostly watching videos and student presentations. He does not allow make up work or make up exams so don't sleep through your midterm like me. He collects notes so make sure you are writing a lot, it is mostly just names and dates.

This professor is unacceptable. Not only does he put others down, but he is disorganized, and it is impossible to know what he wants you to know. His lectures are just reciting hundreds of names and dates and nothing else whatsoever. He has zero empathy for anyone who needs to miss class even if it's a true emergency. You can not make up anything.

Extremely sarcastic and rude. Can't talk for five minutes without making someone in the class look or feel stupid. If you have a real passion for the outdoors he will ruin it for you. A class that is supposed to be fun is made so much harder than it needs to be and all that aside, he is not even good at teaching. Skip class and go for a hike

he's a funny guy but sometimes can be rude. if you give the wrong answer he will make you feel stupid. i failed the midterm, final, and final paper yet ended up with a C. i don't know how i passed but it was probably because i went to class everyday. show interest for snow leopards and he will like you.

Benfield is super sarcastic and some think he comes across as rude. However, if you pay attention and take notes, his class is possible. I got an A for the semester, but I think it helped that I was very interested in the topic. He collects notes, so taking good notes boosts your grade and helps you prepare for the tests.

I have mixed feelings about Benfield, he can be sarcastic and rude. He was not available if you need help, was out of the country during the midterm. Didn't lecture much, most of class was video or student presentations. Collects notes. The tests were insane, no one gets an A or B. Class was interesting but I could have learned more by myself.

Dr. Benfield is a great teacher but just not for me. Very passionate about the topic and knows a lot. We lecture occasionally but mainly watch this video series and when it comes to tests, good luck! The questions that were on it, i don't even remember learning about. Does notebook checks on video and lecture notes. Be organized!

Comment:

Dr. Benfield is a genius. He is extremely knowledgeable in a variety of fields. He is filled with facts, and random knowledge that goes beyond what a textbook will tell you. It is evident that Dr. Benfield puts time into understanding why things are the way they are. His classes may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed them - he is also hilarious!

As long as you agreed with his point of view when writing an essay, you were fine. If you did not, you were marked down. Tests based on textbook which was hardly ever used. An online course, we were flooded with extras, movies, songs, etc. Overload.

If you miss a class you are not aloud to hand in any assignments that were do that day no matter what the circumstance. Additionally, he is not clear on assignment due date and is rude when it comes to acknowledging students who are trying to reach out. I would only recommend this class to someone who doesn't care about failing.

The whole class almost every class we just watched a movie series which is on Netflix. I watched them again just to make sure I would know the information. The tests are irrelevant. You wouldn't take notes on the questions that he gives on the tests. He is into what he's teaching, but the teaching was minimal. No book.

Professor Benfield is not my cup of tea. Granted he has a cool accent, he does not know how to teach. Attendance is optional, which is nice but also dangerous. His midterm and final are open notes, but as nice as that sounds, its actually very tough. the highest grade was a 77. As a Person he's great... as a teacher, he sucks.

Probably the worst class I've ever taken. Benfield is incredibly sarcastic rude and doesn't know how to teach a class. His tests are completely irrelevant and his grading is incredibly extreme.

Dr. Benfield is a tough professor. Other reviews say he is awful or is too hard and can't pass his class... He is the kind of professor who expects you to actually put work into his class, like a real professor should. Don't expect to glide by and get an A, if you work for it, you will get it. His classes fly by too with him. I'd take him again.

worst professor i have ever had. Required the class to purchase 2 books that were never used. He wrote in the syllabus the exams would be multiple choice and essay only. Mid term was a lot of fill-in-the-blank and guest speakers info were on exams. made mean jokes. Assigned a ten page paper. Dont take this class!!!

Awful professor. Syllabus is incorrect and recycled from another professor. The "required texts" were never used. Only four graded assignments. Grading not up to date. Student presentations teach the course. Absent for two weeks over the semester. Sense of humor is immature, unprofessional, and offensive.

Do not take this class or teacher. It was horrible and so was he. Very disorganized. Sent random teachers to classes when he wasn't there to teach irrelevant things. I'm an A student and I didn't pass this class. Enough said

Lectures and assignments were all over the place and did not follow the syllabus. As one person said, he is very discouraging and makes rude comments on essay that are unnecessarily sarcastic rather than being constructive. He used his own opinion when grading instead of looking at essays with an unbiased view.
