Comment:
Doesn't assign reading at home but expects students to comment on poems before they are read in class. Assigns work at short notice, same day, doesn't post grades, doesn't give clear grading rubrics or outlines, attendance "optional" but counts off on papers if you don't come. "regional lit & culture" but actually Renn. & Baroque poetry- no culture

Comment:
His seminar for grad students resemble lectures for undergrads. He has the tendency to identify with one or two characters in the readings and loses all his objectivity when analyzing the play or drama. If a student does not think exactly like him, he or she will be mocked . I lost my interest in the class after week two.

He doesn't encourage students to participate, but if you do it, he will respectfully listen to you and reply addressing all your concerns. He is very knowledgable and will everything easy for everyone to understand.

He is not a good professor. He has repeatedly mocked students in class for mistakes or errors. Take someone else, if at all possible.

I have taken him for both 4153 and 3853. He is very helpful! The class is easy if you do the work. Make sure you go to class and speak because he LOVES participation, even if it is just an opinion! He also loves Jokes! His class is super easy if you just show up! He goes over the stories so it makes it a lot easier to understand!

His class is hard but just do the reading beforehand and you should do fine. You don't have to be perfect at Spanish but do go to class cause there are quizzes.

Lauer was very helpful. He's a great professor, really knows his stuff. If you're at all serious about Spanish literature, he has a wealth of knowledge and works very hard to help students grasp sometimes-difficult concepts. I look forward to more classes with him!

Don't waste your time, this class was torturous. People were switching majors just to avoid having this teacher again.

Comment:
His Spanish class was hard, but I've taken it twice, and it's hard no matter who teaches it. Prof. is extremely smart and helpful. I had a film class with him where he opened up a little more, and he's actually really funny and interesting when he's not having to talk about accent marks in essays. Is pretty liberal, and very active in politics and organizations on campus, which I found impressive. He's really nice about late homework if you don't push it, and his film class is extraordianarily unique.

He is very difficult and there is a lot of homework, but I learned a ton in his class. Take him if you really want to learn Spanish and its grammar.
