You know how the semester is going to go when you ask a question and the prof says your question does not make sense....all comments below are right on mark. The material is not too difficult ot understand as long as it is taught. He does not teach and makes it harder than it is. Advice: spend lots of time with TA or in MLC.

haha wow...I really couldn't have said it better than the person below me. THIS PROFESSOR IS TERRIBLE. I feel sorry for all of his future students.Don't even ask if he curves. I quote him, "It's not in my philosophy of teaching." Maybe he should try being less unnecessarily picky. He should really be fired. My H.S. Algebra teacher taught better!

It has been less than a week and his true colors are showing. The comments below mine are very generous. Absolutely horrible. I would not have taken him if it wasn't necessary at this time. Do yourself a favor: AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. There should be a disclaimer or caution note when registering. Worst professor ever.

Comment:
Almost unnecessarily tough. He is available to help but he has as much trouble understanding your questions as you have understanding his explanations. Also, when asked for additional problems he simply said "get a different book." He did however form a review session every week which was very helpful. Probably better as a 400 or 500 level teacher.

I worked very hard through the whole summer semester, but I still got a B. I think the stuff taught near the end of the semester are very difficult. I might have screwed up the final, I don't know what I got, but I aced the midterm, and most quizes. He's very good at explaining things, if you try hard to listen through his accent.

Students always want to blame him for their own laziness. He always encouraged students to ask questions, and they never did. He was always available if you had any questions, but no one asked. He is able to notice if you put effort in his class, and he will reward you for that, even if you don't do all that great in the tests. He is very fair!!!

The exams were not too easy by any means, but I highly recommend you go and talk to him during his office hours, because he likes when students show effort, and will give you an A for effort!!!!

He was one of the most unfair teachers ever. He thinks he is a good teacher cause he's been doing it for 30 years, but I say that is 29 years too long. He doesn't follow through with things he says in class and is an overall mean person. I think he feels that since he is the teacher he is right and can do no wrong. He is one big power trip!

This Professor was great. He explained calculus with a de-mystified approach, by explaining theory mixed with applications. He was an extremely fair grader, to the extent that he dropped one test question when it appeared that students had too much trouble with it.

He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He takes off points for the most stupid reasons and whoever thinks he is a good teacher is full of crap. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. An A is impossible for this guy! This is the first B in a math college class for me. He never curved any of the tests even when the class Av was a 55%. WORST TEACHER

Comment:
this professor does not care about being fair. When a student asked him why his test was unfair, not covering the material he told us to study for, he told us he did not believe in fairness. This is clearly the sign of a professor who cares not for his students but rather strives to impede upon the development of his pupils. Frankly, hes terrible

As an Alumni I must say that Prof. Carraminana class was the most impacting and helpful of all. If college was meant to be an "easy A" then everyone would have a college degree. Math is the most beatiful and profoun subject if you put the time into it. If you think you can take Linear Algebra and not work your butt off then leave UIC.

Absolutely horrible grader. Normally, Linear is an easy A after some light homework. This professor, however, gives D's, E's, and F's with impunity. At the end of the course, as one of the highest scoring students, I was rewarded with a C. As math professor, you'd think he'd learn to curve.

translation, please? Most of the time you're guessing what the heck he's trying to say. Studying calculus becomes second to deciphering his broken English. He's a good person, but not a good teacher.

Understanding what he is saying is 9/10 of the class. Understanding calculus should be hard, not understanding the teacher.

Well, for starters, I never knew "in-tan-taneous" was a word, but I guess that's basically the jist of what to expect from this guy. You know it's a fun class when you can understand about oh, 40% of what he says and writes down. Definitely a s
