His lectures often get a bit boring but he mixes things up from time to time with videos and stuff he brings in like skulls/bones. Fairly easy class but you're only graded on 5-6 quizzes throughout the course which he gives you only 20 minutes on each. On his website are study guides so you'll know exactly what to expect.

Most of his lectures in this folklore/life class involved stories, and a fair bit of them revolved us watching videos or clips of these specific folk aspects. Pay attention to the antidotes and learn how to relate them to your own. Also read the text. It'll help with exams. Definitely an interesting class, though some others thought it was boring.

Dry. Hard to pay attention to. No sense of humour, shows videos from the 70s that are no longer relevant. Material isn't hard, but he makes it sound like it. Sort of mean.

I got the book it does help a little it was only $40 to rent from T.I.S. Nice guy lectures everyday many times of which are somewhat dry and drag on. Gives 5 quizzes which are basically your only grade. They are tough many people in my class averaged a 5.0 out of 10 points. He does curve them at the end of the semester I got a B but due to curve.

Lots of people moan and complain in this class, specifically freshman. Just take notes, and read them, and you will pass the quizzes required in this course. He does not use powerpoints, so literally just paraphrase what he talks about in your notes and you will be fine. Don't just show up and text the whole time, or stare into space, you will fail

I am an Anthropology minor, and I just could not with this class! He moves incredibly fast and doesn't even do things on blackboard, he has his own website. I had to withdraw out of this class the 3rd week because I knew I would fail it because of the difficulty level. I strongly suggest to take the class, if he isn't the professor!

Not a good professor at all. Unstructured, unorganized, uninteresting. His grading scale is idiotic; he compares your score to everyone elses. Rather than give constructive criticism, he will out right bash your projects and research papers. Avoid him, he's not worth the hassle and headache.

I'm not completely sure why, but I am in love with him. He is insightful and keeps things fairly interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, in fact, he couldn't care less if you were there or not. But if you want to do well on the tests, it would be smart to go. Lectures add to text, they don't summarize it. Read the chapters!

His lectures are extremely jumbled and jump all over the place. He gives quizzes every now and then but the info on the quizzes is extremely detailed and difficult to recall. He shows random old videos that are extremely boring. He's very nice but just not very interesting as a teacher. I like to take notes but it just didn't help in this class.

I used to love archaeology. I had taken other classes through a different school and was really wanting to pursue a degree in it until Hicks. He single-handedly destroyed my love of archaeology. He can't even answer his own study guide questions. He is dry, boring, and seems to have no passion for the material he is presenting. Should not teach!!

Avoid at all cost. If you thought Archeology was interesting because of Indiana Jones, youre looking at the wrong class. Get prepared to learn about stone flakes. He teaches like you are in 400 level archeology. Im an A & B student & a senior. Ive had many professors & difficult classes & never had as much trouble as I have in this class.STAY AWAY!

Nice guy, very intelligent. Grades are based on five quizzes (each out of ten points) and a final. He gives you a chance for extra credit to replace second lowest quiz score. He drops your lowest quiz score. Class is sometimes boring and very difficult. Not an easy class but if you study sufficiently, you should get a decent grade. Grades on curve.

The class was boring and it was hard to keep interested. The test were all out of 10 points and he states that the average is a 6. Throughout the semester our class average was a 5. We did not use the books and you have to watch out of date movies. He has NO SLIDESHOWS for note you just have to listen:(

My Anthropology class was so hard. Maybe it's just my learning style that is not compatible towards his teaching style but I hated attending this class every Tuesday night. He seems like a nice guy but it is just so incredibly boring! I recommend not having him as a professor. My 48 yr. old mother had him. This guy is not for me.

Disorganized for class lectures (not having things ready, random powerpoints and movies). VERY hard...and grades on a very weird scale. If there are 10 ppl, one has 100%, one has a 99%, one has an 84%...then the 100% gets an "A" and the 99% and 84% get the same grade ("A-"). Doesn't make sense.

he is very interested in his subject, and defiantly shows his knowledge in it. he is dry, if you don't have his enthusiasm for dead apes. the class would be alright, but he grades on a curve, and that can really mess with grades. the tests are simple and the study guides are good, but because the class is on a curve, that doesn't really matter.

Very stale and dry lecturer and his lectures are unstructured. Fails to account for newer perspectives within the discipline. Lacks any real excitement about anything outside his own interests. Although he is very helpful if you share those interests. Poorly organized in and out of class.
