Ron is a chill dude. I have him for Tribes and Scribes right now and I like him well enough. There are a LOT of papers and homework, but it's all reading. He encourages group work which is good an bad, depending on who you are. He buys us pizza sometimes too and he seems to really care about how we perform. I like him a lot!

Ron is a really smart dude. However, he takes the class time to allow students to speak and expand upon their own ideas through challenge and encouragement. I felt he really helped me find my voice in his class. I took public essay with him and he found a way to validate everyone's perspectives which I highly respected out of a college professor.

Professor Denson is a great professor. He urges students to challenge their ideology and see from perspectives other than their own. I had him for the seminar Tribes and Scribes. If you're just looking for a class to pass, don't take this one. This is for discussion and really challenging the mindsets of the students. I loved it.

I took my honors seminar with Ronny D and it was by far the best course I've ever had. He allows for an open and creative environment amongst his pupils and encourages one to think outside the box. You could tailor your essays to your own interests and he was cool with it. It's good to see that some teachers still question society...he opens eyes.

He's a great person and a nice person. It's not about the technical stuff with him it's about learning deeper themes and growing as a person not as a student. If you want to learn how to write an essay don't take him but if you are going to explore an idea in a seminar, do it. He will open your eyes.

Public Essay - Ron Denson is the worst professor I have ever had. He's understanding, but I have not learned one thing. We have never discussed the structure of an essay or how to write one. All we do is read essays and explore the themes, but never writing techniques or styles. It's horrendous.

Ronny D really cares about his students. Frosh seminars all have mandatory events that they don't mention beforehand, but some of them rn't bad. assignments r sumtimes unclear, but that's in part because he's an easy-going guy & doesn't want 2 constrict ur writing 2 much, he just wants you thinking about life. It's almost like a philosophy course.

Assignments were always vague and abstract. NO writing skills are gained. Class time was used more for social and political discussions. Comments from him are unhelpful and often belittling. Learned more from peer workshopping than the professor. WASTE OF TIME.

Good at giving examples of good and bad writing to demonstrate to students what they should and shouldn't do. Good feedback on essays. Allows students to rewrite their essays multiple times in a semester so the best ones come out at the end.

I really enjoyed this course, as well as Ron. He's a great facilitator of class discussion and always offers time for help outside of class. Draft workshops were helpful. The readings were usually fairly painless and thought-provoking. I'd definitely recommend this course.

I had Ron for Public Essay and loved him. I can see how someone wouldn't like him because he's not always accepting of other non-liberal opinions, but he is a good guy and is willing to listen to others' comments. He also gives good feedback on papers.

Professor Denson is actually really nice and willing to take time to help students. I found the class to be extremely interesting, and am a little confused as to why so many former students before 2004 hated the class so much. I'd definitely recommend him. Nice guy. Perhaps he's changed since 03.

i came out of his class more confused than i went in... and i like writing! this man will ruin the 1960s for you too-- tedious, unclear and totally unwilling to give you an inch in a very seemingly subjective class. take at your own risk.
