Lectures were pretty dry, but he was kind and passionate about what he teaches. I found some of the class interesting. He talks a lot about his professional life and note-taking in general, but I didn't mind because he was never boastful, and talking about college skills like note-taking might be valuable for a gen-ed. Not stellar, but recommended.

This class was interesting, but his lectures can be soo long and tedious, he sometimes goes off topic. Hes very knowledgeable and passionate. There were quizzes and tests on each unit based on readings and a book, and you can bring x amount of sheets of notes to the test. Each quiz and test has a lot of extra credit questions which help soo much!

He seems like a good guy and is very knowledgeable about the Middle East, but his lectures are all over the place. I had no idea what I should write down for notes because he seemed to go off topic. The the amount of readings he has you do before class is insane. He is never sure about what you have to have read by the day you have class.

In general not a hard class, his lectures are almost useless but mandatory. There are four tests on the readings and there's a quiz on the lecture the class before every test. HE WILL TEST YOU ON HIS PERSONAL LIFE (like you have to know who he's pen pals with) and it's so hard to pay attention to his lectures. If you don't read you'll fail.

Everything's open notes, handwritten only. He gives you a study guide with terms, but the test only uses most and some you didn't study. I spent hours on notes, but the extra credit saved me. He's passionate, but his lectures are confusing and go in circles. The course pack was expensive when he could have posted PDFs. Make-ups are case-by-case.

whole class is graded off a quiz and test for each of four units, every class is a lecture, each absence is minus 2% do NOT take this at 8am. quizzes are easy and half extra credit and tests are hard and material gets more boring towards the end of the course but everything is open note. all work can be done a couple nights before assessments.

He lets you use notes for tests and quizzes. His lectures seem to last a long time, and he tends to get off topic talking about himself and his achievements. Has extra credit for quizzes.

Professor Hanifi is a nice guy and is very passionate about what he teaches but the lectures are very bland and hard to follow. The amount of times I left class not really knowing what the point of the lecture was is insane. Lots of notes and the tests are super hard although he does let you have notes. Hardest class I took and it was a gen ed.

I love Dr. Hanifi as a professor but the workload can get to be a bit unmanageable around mid-term time with LOTS of reading (multiple chapters with at least 15-20 pages each). The wording of the text can make it difficult to get through without losing focus at points. He is very passionate about S. Asia + is well-respected in his field of study.

The amount of extra credit given is crazy. I literally got a B on every single test and quiz and ended with a high A. This class can be boring, but as long as you are willing to read and take notes you will get an easy A.

Honestly as long as you read and take good notes and you can pass. I went to every class but it didn't really help with the quizzes and tests. 4 quizzes and 4 tests and 50 points for attendance. Can get an attitude if you leave class early, but go talk to him once or twice in office hours and you will be fine.

Reading is an absolute must in this class. All the lectures are just talking about the readings, so if you don't spend the countless hours reading then the lectures will make no sense because there is no context. Very knowledgable, but you can tell he is very opinionated and will make it known. It's overall eh, so take at your own risk

It's kind of complicated? I am really struggling to read and comprehend the material in the class, but I have a decent grade. Dr. Hanifi gives plenty of extra credit and is very enthusiastic about the material. I can tell he wants everyone to do well. However, there is so much reading & the material is dense. This is my hardest class right now?

The topic of the class is interesting, but his lectures tend to be pretty dry and disorganized. The class is an easy A with straightforward tests, extra credit, and cheatsheets plus it gets cancelled a lot. Ultimately I liked the material and the low stress credit but, again, lecture is pretty boring and mandatory. You'll also spend hours reading.

This class is weird. Dr. Hanifi is esteemed and respected, but his lectures are insanely dry and hard to stay awake for. A lot of reading is assigned, however you can bring notes for quizzes (lecture) and tests (reading), making A's on the tests super easy. Be ready to read, you'll get that A, just be prepared to be bored in class

Professor Hanifi obviously is knowledgable in his field. His lectures require no participation which is nice at 8 in the morning. Lectures are very disorganized and not structured but tbh you only need notes from lectures for quizzes and he tells you what days that will be. Allows you to bring notes to all quizzes and test, making it an easy A

This class is very hard to explain. Hanifi lectures over a broad amount of material as well as assigns pretty heavy reading. It was hard for me to understand what was going on half of the time but if you go to class and write down as much of what hes saying as possible you will be able to make a good note sheet and do well on the exams.

Professor Hanifi is a great professor. He cares very much about his students and is very accommodating. For every test and quiz, you may use a designated amount of notes which is very very helpful. The reading outside of class is not very easy and a bit hard for me to understand. Overall, he was a great professor. Definitely recommend!

Prof. Hanifi is a great professor that really cares about what he teaches. He is a scholar and has had a very successful life with what he does! Although he is a great professor, the work outside of class is very difficult and it is a LOT of reading. The material is pretty tricky and I often struggled. Be prepared to STUDY ahead of time!
