One of my best professors. Very personable and kind. Makes sure you understand the material. Rambles, but he's the type of speake that keeps your attention even when he rambles. I got to know him really well, and found that he has a HUGE knowledge of astronomy, though he's in no way a show-off. Grades fairly. Brilliant man and a great teacher.

When I lost my book and the copy on reserve at the library disappeared, Stephen let me use his personal book for the class. Such a helpful teacher! Both the material and lectures were very interesting and he gave great feedback on papers and thoughts. Really a great teacher and a great class all around!

Very sweet guy who loves what he teaches. Lectures can be boring but the material is very interesting. Book is a must, 1 page of notes allowed for exams. Really cares about students, offers many extra credit projects. One of the best classes I took at UF, really puts our place in the universe to a whole new perspective. Read the book, get an A.

The class can seem to drag on for a while but it's only because there is so much to say and he doesn't enjoy using computers (he uses over-heads). The guy really is not a jerk but if you treat him like dirt he'll do the same to you. Read the book and just listen to him in class!

Fantastic at explaining hard-to-understand concepts, though he occasionally attempted to teach things that the class simply wasn't interested in. Dr. "Steve" Gottesman is the kind of guy who will really inspire you with his brilliance. You'll love his classes if you're the type that enjoys watching the Discovery Channel.

he's a more traditional lecturer which can b a bit boring but he has obvious knowledge & experience in astronomy & cares about your understanding and concern for the topic. he's not an easy grader by any means, he riped many of my essays apart on grammar & non astronomy but if you put in some effort and at least try in class he's easily won over

He's a wonderful teacher and very understanding and caring when it comes to his students. He actually asks me how people are doing when he knows I know them outside of class and they don't show up! His homework is a little difficult, but it's managable. The tests aren't as bad as they seem either.

Do not pay attention to the reviews by those who take astronomy as a blowoff course. You only did poorly because you didn't care or try. This professor, although his lectures can be dry at times, is one of the best i've had thus far. Astronomy is NOT an easy subject. It is more than just looking at pretty pictures, so don't enroll expecting that.

He was very nice, but his class was sort of boring. The tests weren't too hard if you read the book, everything was out of it.
