This class is all about lectures and reading. Dr. Zehr is a really intelligent guy. He is tough and expects you to put in work (quality work) b/c it was a 400 level writing intensive course. He gives great feedback to help you improve. I am not a writer at all and I got an avg. grade on paper 1 and did much better on 2 with the help o his feedback!

Dr. Zehr is great! He expects you to read, and be prepared to discuss the readings in class. Your grade is based off of 4 tests, and participation. He takes attendance everyday. I would definitely recommend him.

Be prepared for lecture, otherwise it will be really awkward when he asks discussion questions. As long as you show up, take notes, and skim the textbook and assigned additional readings, you'll be fine. Places a BIG emphasis on attendance and even on being late.

If you skip you will not pass, let me just say that. He is very smart and seems like a really nice guy, I feel bad that no one really participates in the conversation or the questions he tries to ask but this man runs a tight ship and his exams are HARD. I consider myself a great student and have never failed an exam until this class

Make sure you don't skip class & take lots of notes. There are only a few tests over the year and that's all you're graded on. All the questions are multiple choice, but are based on both the lecture and book, and applying the concepts so you really have to know the information in order to pass. All in all he's a nice guy though!

Dr. Zehr is not for the faint of heart. By far the hardest professor in the sociology department at USI. He is very intimidating, but at the core he is very nice and helpful. He is knowledgeable about classical sociology and challenges ideas. Pay attention, read, and listen to him in class and your experience will be better than most.

Dr. Zehr is a professor that holds students accountable and will challenge you and force you to reach your full potential. Slacking off and skipping class is not wise. His tests are tough but you can pass with a good grade if you study, ask questions, and read! I would definitely recommend his class if you want to actually LEARN.

This man doesn't get the credit he deserves. He is the first prof that actually made me work for my grade, so if you want an easy A do not take him. He truly loves his work and sociology. He is very understanding and helpful if you ask. He is very intimidating at first because of his knowledge, but he is also a goof ball at heart. He loves cats!

Get ready to read and be asked to discuss the material. He assigns multiple papers for a class period, along with two "textbooks." He knows what he is talking about, so be sure to write down EVERYTHING he says. Don't skip. And don't fall asleep in class. Missed material missed points on the exam. He's willing to help out confused students.

Class is boring and he very opinionated. If you get something wrong he laughs or makes you feel stupid. He doesn't make the class interesting and he tries to keep you over time as if we don't have other classes. He is not understanding at all.

If you miss a class and God forbid you are sick he will not let you make it up . If you ask him for the notes he says it is your responsibility which is fine but when I asked other students for the notes no one will give them to me and he had no sympathy. Tried to show him the doctors note and he didn't even care didn't even excuse the absence.

First time class was taught, zero structure. "Calendar" was an outline no dates. 2 dozen readings, only some needed, but 20-30 pages & he wanted us to print them. 1st essay exam I got a 39% & I'm NOT that kind of student. Went to him for help & he said he was "too busy" to send emails about when things were due. 1st class I dropped & he didn't care

He is not a good professor and it seems like he enjoys failing students. He is not helpful and will laugh at you if you say the wrong answer. Ended up dropping his class because it was ridiculously hard. If you have to take it good luck, you will need it.

I really enjoyed this class because I learned a great deal about classic sociological theory, but this was definitely the hardest class I have ever taken. All of the exams and quizzes are essays, and he is very picky about the details and students' understanding of the material. If you need help, just ask! He will help in the best way he can.

Dr. Zehr is the most intelligent professor i have ever had. Class is pretty difficult but i mainly study off my notes from class and do well. He will help you as much as you need you just have put in effort... its a 400 level class not a 100 level. I would absolutely take him for another class because he knows what he talking about.

This class was hard. The material is a lot of theories. Attendance is not required but you need to go, he checks. His tests were all short answer and essay. he grades them very hard. His papers were hard, his directions are not clear, and grades them HARD. He is nice, and tries to be funny. He is actually really useful if you talk to him

absolute worst teacher ive ever had. yeah, its college and you should expect things to be hard and blah blah..but dr. zehr doesnt explain things well at all. i had to drop his class. he expects that you have nothing else going on in life other than worrying about his class. if thats the case- go right ahead and take him.

This professor is as hard as anyone should expect from a college professor. Newsflash, ITS COLLEGE! If you show up to class and study around 1-3 hours a night, (Which is recommended for success in most college courses) you will be fine. Do not be one of those students who is looking for an easy way out of everything.
