Comment:
What a gem. I took Introduction to Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy with D'Arcy. D'Arcy really helped us in developing an understanding of Heidegger and other foundational thinkers in the history of Phenomenology. He is a really kind person and provides great feedback on papers. His slides are also very detailed. Great professor.

Professor D'Arcy is definetly above 4.0 (overall quality), he gives lots of time in class for students to discuss the material he is going over with him. If you stop by his office hour or after class he'd be able to answer any question you have too. Make sure your interested in the course though or else you will have a hard time with any prof.

Comment:
D'Arcy is an overall nice teacher and gives excellent feedback on essays (I'm talking two pages single spaced in comments). It's clear that he's intelligent and knows what he's talking about. That being said, he takes the course a little too seriously (I mean, it's philosophy of right and wrong...) and he marks tests and essays very hard.

I guess some people would say his lectures are boring, but they're easy to get into if you enjoy the topic. I really like him. You also get to participate which is nice and makes class go by faster. Dr. D'Arcy is also a fairly easy marker for essays and exams are simple. It's also great that you don't have to buy a textbook,he posts articles online

Steve is a great professor. He understands what he's teaching and uses class time very well. He doesn't play favourites and teaches the class in a professional way, presenting the information from the textbooks without any bias. He has a pleasant disposition and I enjoyed having him a lot. One of the better profs I've had for sure. 5/5

Kind of dry, but generally enjoyable, readings are crucial to fully understand lectures but you can get by with missing some here and there. Lecture are thorough, and there is a lot of discussion that can go off on tangents but I suspect thats normal for a philosophy course. All around decent class and I learned a lot.

Comment:
The course title is very misleading. It should be called the history of leftist political philosophy. I don't know how one could avoid covering Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Smith and still legitimately call this course the History of Political Philosophy.

Hes not hard, but just not excited about this course. He will chat about materials out side of class. Hes a nice guy all around and not playing favorites. He knows when you've put in the effort from your understanding and you will be rewarded. Just do the work and put some effort into your essay and class discussions and the A will follow.

He's a brilliant professor, and a nice guy to boot! He explained the readings clearly and concisely. He's able to lead class discussions very fruitfully, though there's nothing you can do about the fact that some people are just plain idiots.

Class is extremely boring and a waste of time. Students argue over stuff when they have no idea what their talking about and prof doesn't stop them. I went to 5 classes all semester, didn't do the readings, did the assignments last minute and still got a 70%, an easy mark for anyone willing to put in many boring hours of lectures.

A very nice prof. Somewhat dull but he class was a joke! Just go to class, do the readings, talk to him office hours for consultations on tests/or essays and you'll do fine.

a great guy, his lectures were clear and concise. he was always 5 minutes late... sometimes he let students talk too much on subjects they didn't understand. lectures were good, he never really taught out of the textbooks, despite what others might say.

not the most interesting professor. I find that lectures are pretty much useless to attend, seeing as how all the material is straight from the text.

Like the other person said, his thoughts are circular that the lecture (sometimes) ends early. He's always there to help if you go to his office hours. He's brillant. That's all I can say.

Interesting class, if you attend. However, he lacks enthusaism and clarity during delivery of lectures. He's so brilliant that his thoughts become circular. Seriously.
