Comment:
Karp is good if you want an easy A. The problem is that you learn very little. He barely covered 5 chapters and skipped a lot of material in between. This is a serious problem if you plan on applying to medical/pharmacy school and puts you at a serious disadvantage in CHM4. Skip Karp and go for Fainzilberg if you need to actually learn Chem.

He is very sweet and helpful. He wants you to understand the work because he knows its hard. He may be a little confusing because of his tangents but if you just ask him to back track the work he will. There can be no way to fail his class unless you do nothing at all because he makes the material very understandable. I took him and got a B

Honestly should be retired. Tries to be helpful but ends up confusing students. Goes off on tangents, writes from right to left on the board, never gives good explanations for homework problems (sometimes his answers are completely incorrect), doesn't stay in the room for labs. Nice guy but horrible professor.

The class itself is pretty confusing. He's not always clear and you probably will have to teach yourself material. The labs can be frustrating; one lab took a month to complete! He's a nice guy though and will help you if you ask for it.

Tends to ramble on about unimportant things and is really boring. He's a pretty nice guy though and his tests are fairly easy if you do the homework.

He is a VERY NICE, sweet man. He will take extra time to help you and explain in different ways so that you understand. He DOES go off on a tangent with useless information which can sometimes be a little frustrating when you're trying to concentrate, but he means well. Even if you don't do great on his exams, he wants you to pass and you will.

One of the quirkiest teacher. In certain cases he reminds me of Mr. Magoo. The class makes no sense, and most of the time he doesn't know what's going on. Even if you fail all the exams, just hand in your notebook and your assignments, and you'll be fine.

With the exception of Dr. Ramer, Karp is the most approachable of the chem dept. at post. However, he is not really that great of a teacher for chemistry. He tends to ramble on seguways rather than teach the material. His tests aren't overly difficult, but more essay-like than Dr. Fainzilberg's, a teacher I prefer over Karp for the same course.

Sets you up for the lab, then walks off. Make sure you are good with doing labs or know someone who is, because he doesn't provide much guidance.
