Comment:

Grades on your speech outline rather than your progression as a speaker. Very nitpicky. I am normally an A+ student and I am expecting a B in this class. If someone in the class compliments you she will find a way to retract their compliment. I would suggest taking speech with another prof.

Comment:

She lets you use your skips and is specific on what she wants; the only positives in my mind. Her insistence for class feedback following people's speeches created a hostile environment and increased my anxiety. I know many, including myself, who were left in tears because of various classes. Unfortunately my mental health was not worth this class.

Suzanne Lindsey has a good heart but she is not easy. She is very passionate about what she teaches and her classes are busy with a solid amount of work.

Comment:

Perfect class to fuel your procrastination and bs-ing tendencies w the 4 speech assignments &no other grades the entire semester; no pressure. But Lindsey isnt exactly the most helpful or fair. Sometimes hard work pays off; sometimes bs-ing does just the same. She can be hurtful and condone others to be the same. Basically her class is a bad idea.

You better not have thin skin. If she doesn't like your speech or doesn't like your speech topic she'll let you know, and she'll tell you in front of the whole class. Her lectures are very interesting and she knows a LOT, but sometime class gets WAY too political. She grades by ranking her speeches from favorite to least favorite.

She is the kind of teacher who makes you work for your grade, but she's extremely knowledgeable about what she teaches. I learned a lot in this class and, though it was difficult, I would take her class again.

Dr. Lindsey is a very intelligent woman and definitely knows her subject. Her classes are some of the most challenging I have ever had, but I came out of the class with so much confidence in my public speaking skills and so much valuable knowledge. Go to class, participate, read, and go to office hours and you will do well.

Comment:

Pros: no tests, mid-terms/finals, or textbook. Just four speeches. She is up front with you and gives much-needed feedback and stories in her over-the-top lectures. Cons: everything else. She is very offensive and warns you from the start. Cares about you but still acts very cold. Grades very harshly; seems like a losing battle.

Suzanne was such good COM teacher that she persuaded me to take a 4000 level class immediately after Speech and then after that, I was persuaded to change my minor to COM. ALWAYS participate as much as possible in the discussion. You'll understand better and SHE NOTICES. It goes a long way for your grade.

This is the only gen ed I got less than an A on because she standards are ridiculous. I put a lot of work into the class, and met with her once or twice before every speech to go over my outline (where she would give useless feedback)& would practice for hours in the room before the speech itself and I still got a B. Don't take her!!

Dr. Lindsey was one of the most interesting professors I've ever met. She made me feel completely worthless. Every speech I gave wasn't good enough because she's "never satisfied". She also allowed other students to talk down to their classmates during feedback. Her liberal agenda and pointless stories didn't let me gain anything from the class.

Dr. Lindsay is one of the most worthwhile professors I've ever had the opportunity to take. I feel like there's not a moment in her class wasted, and she ensures every class meeting is used effectively to get across the course material. If you're willing to work and put in the effort, you'll do great and take away a lot from her classes.

Dr. Lindsey is a very tough grader. You will have to work hard in this class. Research for speech topics is like writing a dissertation. However, she is willing to help, so def take advantage of that. If you take time to talk to her to show you care, it will def make a difference in the grade you get. No textbook used, so no reading and no tests.

Dr. Lindsey is really tough, but she's a great teacher. I had the worst fear of public speaking before taking this class (I would shake like crazy), but it helped me so much. I went to her before every speech, and it was incredibly helpful. You'll get a better grade if you go talk to her because she's really picky. I would definitely recommend her.

By far the hardest class I've ever taken; got an awesome grade but only bc i worked my BUTT OFF. she's terrifying but you'll learn how to give speeches. she's also a brat. but once you figure her out (if she doesn't hate you) it'll be fine. DON'T BE LATE;DON'T BE A BRAT;KISS HER BUTT; YOU'LL BE FINE

She is fantastic. From the beginning of the course, she lets you know what you are in for, so go ahead and drop if this style of learning isn't for you. No textbook, no midterm or final, just 4 major speeches throughout the semester. She is so helpful, and personally, has been one of, if not the best professors I've had in my college career.

I can't remember if there is a textbook or not, but if there is, do NOT buy it. She literally lectures every day, very seldom with visual aid. She knows all the tells of bad listeners, so try and pay attention. The four speeches are easy and she doesn't grade very hard until the end of the semester. Pretty broad freedom to choose your own topics.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She picks favorites. If you are not a favorite...good luck because basically your screwed. If you are an athlete....DEF dont' take it. She gets mad that you miss her class when you can't help it. Hated her and this class!

I have never felt like Dr. Lindsey has wasted a second of my time. Everything she says is relevant to the class; she rarely goes off on tangents. I found this class absolutely fascinating but I will warn you, Dr. Lindsey is hard. She tells you what she expects, and if you want to get an A you better do what she says plus some. But it's so worth it.

She is a cat lady who if you plays favorites. If you play brown nose you will do great. Not very clear at all with what she needs from the speaker. Did not enjoy the class at all. She always gives redundant feedback to everyone which makes you hard on yourself because a speech never seems good.
