Tom is one of my favourite profs at UBC hands down. This guy is so deeply passionate about social theory. His lectures are some of the best from my entire degree. He's committed to being there for his students, always accessible and super understanding. Go to office hours, you'll have great conversations. Some readings are tough, but worth it.

A fantastic professor. Tom has a unique ability to take very dense and sometimes challenging material and simplifying it and even making it interesting. If you show up, do the readings (even just the short introductions will do), and put in a solid effort its quite easy. Tom made the course really rewarding and if you get him for 370 you are lucky!

My favourite professor. My favourite course. Listening to his lectures on theories is an euphoria, celestial experience. He reconstructs the way you perceive and understand sociological theories. He will make you in deep love with sociology. If you ever come across any questions, go ask him. He would always be there for you.

One of the best professors I have ever had. He makes very difficult to parse texts so much more understandable and explains every reading you do. This class is extremely useful if you are majoring in Sociology and Professor Kemple solidified my love for Sociology. He is also extremely approachable and makes old theories very relevant.

I took SOCI 370 with him over the course of two terms this year. Going into the course, I was expecting theories to be very dull and uninteresting - however, this has become my favourite class across both terms! Kemple's lecture are absolutely amazing and inspirational. You come out of each lecture, feeling like you gained so much knowledge. 10/10.

Amazing teacher for Arts One; Tom is an awesome genuine humble person. He taught me logical clarity in my writing. He is a tough marker, especially if you're used to high English grades in high school. His feedback really helps though, and if you pay attention to his comments, you can definitely improve.

Professor Kemple is all you can hope for from an Arts One professor. He is knowledgeable, respectful, funny, and puts in a lot of thought and effort into his lectures. He may be a tough marker, but he sets a bar and works with you to get there. He is generally interested in your success as a student and in you as an individual. Highly recommend.

Amazing prof. If you are doing theory, TAKE IT WITH HIM. He will improve your overall essay writing and help you really learn how to write papers that you will use if you ever write a thesis. Overall great guy, and make sure you use his office hours so you can get an idea of what he wants from you for the essay.

Prof Kemple is one of the best profs I've ever had, and a wonderful person to boot. The material we covered was incredibly interesting, and Kemple knew it inside out. He helped me improve my essay-writing to a place I didn't think it could be. He pushes his students, and it pays off! I highly suggest taking a class with him.

An interesting prof with a good sense of humour. He tends to dance around questions and it's hard to get a straight answer out of him, but he introduces you to a new way of thinking of the novel you're reading. He's new at teaching Arts One, so I'm sure that as he gets more comfortable with the course he'll improve as a prof.
