I don't know about you, but I am not a philosophy major and have a ton of other homework I would rather do than do all the reading Dobie assigns. His classes are interesting and you can get through class without doing the reading because he mainly just lectures and rarely asks for input. However, he is an extremely difficult grader.

Comment:
Dr. Dobie has an extensive knowledge of his subject matter, but is often unable to relate this effectively. He can be quite disorganized and struggled a lot in my class conveying the material so it made the class more confused. I guess it can be difficult for him as well since this course was one of the hardest Ive ever taken.

Dr. Dobie is my favorite professor of all time. He is a very sweet man who really knows his stuff. He is a hard grader but if you write papers ahead of time and take them to office hours he will give you great feedback. He picks great books, especially in the second semester. I think every student should have to take Dr. Dobie.

The semester is over and as Goebbels would conclude, Dobie will receive a bltzkrieg of critique from students who possess more knowledge than the department's leader!

This summation of Dobie requires more than 350 characters due to disrespecting the pantheon of the great philosophers that walked this planet. Cicero would cringe at a Robert Dobie lecture, Socrates would belch at Dobie dueling with the great Masters of Philosophical Thinkers. More to come about Dobie, stay tuned my doe-eyed millennials.

A lot of reading. No test, only three three-page papers and a take home final which is six-page. He's definitely tough grader. However, he's really helpful if you bring your draft to his office before submitting. And remember to carefully proofread your essays. Pay attention in class, otherwise you'll have no idea when looking at the paper topic.

Tough grader. He wants to see that you put effort in your writing. Bring your draft to his office and proofread your papers, and you should be fine. He went quite fast in class. Try to write down as much as possible from his slides. Those info will help you in writing essays. No test, daily one-question quiz, three papers, one take home final

Dobie is no walk in the park. You must listen during his lectures, I can NOT stress this enough. He will give you a two question quiz each class (Night class) You have to listen to the lecture to know the answers. He assigns about 5 papers, including your take home final which is 2 papers. A lot of reading is assigned so be prepared.

Good teacher. I was dreading taking a 3 hour Philosophy night class but he made it good. There aren't tests. He asks you one question halfway through night class and one at the end for points to see if you're paying attention. Three 3-page papers and a take home final. Must take notes. Not hard at all. I didn't read any of the books & got B's.

As a freshman, i had to take a philosophy class and didn't know it would be so hard. dobie expected us to understand ancient philosophers just by reading them on our own and then asked questions about them. he did do a somewhat good job of uncoding some of it but HIS PAPERS ARE TERRIBLE. i never got above a C+ on papers and I am a good writer.

There was quiz at the end of every class on the material he taught IN THAT CLASS. No time to thoroughly study or review. I would give great answers but because I didn't have a specific phrase or key word then i would get a 02. Doesn't seem like much, but it is in a class where there are no tests, homework, midterm, or final. I would NOT recommend.

Professor Dobie is a tough teacher because he asks the deepest and hardest philosophical questions that you really have to examine carefully. I'm a philosophy major and I got a B. Although I was hoping for a higher grade, I learned a ton about ancient philosophy, especially Aristotle. I plan on taking him again.

If you need to take a philosophy course, take Dr. Dobie. As a senior philosophy major, I think Dobie is the best in the department. He is a brilliant scholar who clearly knows the material. More importantly, he explains everything clearly. What's required of you: 1). Take really good notes 2). Write well on the papers..take them to his office hours

You only have three assignments, which are all 7 page papers, but he grades them extremely hard. I never received such a low grade on a paper. You can go in for help, which helps get a better grade a little bit.

Dobie is a great teacher and really knows his stuff. The final grade is based on very little, we had a mid-term ppr and a final ppr, thats it. Just go to class pay attn, take lots of notes, because he spoonfeeds us the material and you'll be fine. Just try to be profound in those pprs because that material sure is. Great teacher!

He is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. He definitly knows what he's talking about and seems to be a very intelligent guy but when it comes to assignments and helping his students he is completely and utterly useless. I dread going to his class and I have never felt more left in the dark about the task at hand.

Disregard that last comment, that clown is in his remedial philosophy class and probably has the mental capacity of dobie's sweatervest. Dobie is a great teacher, and more importantly, a great guy. He'll work with you, but you better work as well. Class is very interesting and contains meaningful discussions on pertinent current affairs
