Comment:
He's one of the harder history professors, but if you are a history major he's definitely very insightful. If you are pursuing graduate or phd studies he has a wealth of information. He generally tries to immerse students in French culture and certainly knows a lot. Lectures are relatively interesting.

Did he mention he went to Cambridge? Pretty much every class consists of a "When I was at Cambridge University..." but if you can get past the pretentiousness and snobbery about French culture, he's a nice guy -- stingy with 'A's though. Great discussion leader; some of his essay questions, less so. An expert historian, and surprisingly funny.

BRILLIANT. Jesuit. A walking encyclopedia. Extremely interesting lectures mixed with some dry humor. More than helpful during his office hours and in his critique of papers. Finals tough but not easy. Listen, take diligent notes, participate in class and you'll come out unscathed. If you are a history major, BE SURE to take one of his classes.

Messed up NPR interview about Avignon. Open a book. Don't just make things up, if you don't know pre-1500 history, or buy wholesale the Petrarchan, Italianate lies.

Historian's Craft: Such a smart guy. Pretty boring, but he has a dry sense of humor that surprised me sometimes!

not the most enthusiastic guy, but he knows what he's talking about, he really just likes you a lot better if you participate. Decent class, just kinda boring guy overall.

I really lucked out in this class because this is his favorite subject to teach, and he was enthusiastic about the course. Also, he was incredibly helpful with our term paper and willing to help me find sources and solidify my thesis.

Overall a great guy. Lots of reading, but he doesn't grade too hard. If you can stay awake in class and participate you'll be fine. Though he gets right down to business in class, he is actually quite approachable and nice if you give him a chance. I mean he brought us candy! Gotta love that.

Lectures are a challenge...if you're trying to stay awake. He has a bad habit of putting his hands all over his mouth, which makes him fairly difficult to understand. I would agree that he is a nervous man - down right anti-social. Class had potential, but unfortunately it was a bomb

Worcester has a bad rep on campus. His classes are interesting, and he is very knowledgeable. As long as you do the readings and speak up in class, you should do fine. Also, he has the tendency to speak slowly, which allows me to be able to take excellent notes. Give him a shot, you'll like him.

Show up on the first day of class with a sixer of Caffeine free Diet Coke and you're all set. Don't get discouraged if he never makes eye contact with you. He just gets nervous. All and all sure, why not.
