Comment:

Mostly a lecture based class with discussion. Tests were based on a lot of content, but topics covered on the test were clearly laid out. Prof. Aoyama is very knowledgeable and very caring and encourages students to come in for office hours. Make sure to keep up with the readings and really know the content. Overall an interesting class.

Comment:

Very intelligent woman who always knows what she's talking about and can answer any question you may have. You have to work for it though because her tests are hard and require paying a lot of attention to the lectures. Not too much homework but she has high expectations so don't half ass anything.

I got a fine grade in this class, but Aoyama treats her students like children, and the subject matter was so painfully obvious that every lecture felt like a chore. I put A effort into this course, satisfied all my responsibilities in a timely manner, and still didn't get the grade I worked for. Hard to communicate with and a chore to learn from.

I'm not really a big fan of Aoyama's. Her lectures are interesting, but she really forces discussion over non-contentious points. Her class can either be really active or kind of awkward because of this. Also, she's incredibly strict. If you tell her that you're not coming to class, she flips out and stresses that attendance is mandatory.

This course is very difficult, and takes quite a bit of effort.There are a lot of topics covered. I didn't enjoy this class at all, but she is very organized with her lectures. Her powerpoint style of teaching can be both good and bad:good beasue she gives you the powerpoint, bad because the class lectures are long and somewhat boring.

seriously, don't buy the textbook. she says in class that you should get it and i initially wasn't after reading comments from this site but i bought it anyway. but really... do not spend the money, i opened it once and closed it about 30 seconds later. other than that... she's a good teacher and a nice person

What a wonderful teacher. Her class was hard, but I learned a lot. Then again, I plan on majoring in Geo, so I'm a bit biased. Very understanding, approachable, willing to help. Interesting and challenging, go for it. Also, no use reading textbooks unless you get some masachistic pleasure from it.

Aoyama presents material in class clearly with Powerpoints. Readings reinforce material, but aren’t needed for success. She grades fairly and curves all grades. She assigns an 8 page paper, 2 presentations, a statistics gathering project, and offers an extra credit project. Classes are all note-heavy. Laptops are effectively prohibited.

Yuko Aoyama is awesome, so helpful and kind. Unfortunately the material is quite boring unless you're interested in the academics of internet uses (like she researches hardcore). The class is very easy though, no tests, just a big paper and weekly half-page reading summaries. Very light reading load though.

Professor Aoyama is very easy but BORING. P.S. Don't buy any textbooks for her classes. I took two classes with her and learned by the second class that we would not be using the book. Everyhting you need to know is on the power point slides she gives in class.
