Comment:
Professor Futrell has single handedly crushed any interest I had in communications. He teaches his winter session public speaking course on a 300+ level for a introductory course. He didn't notify students of what materials we needed until midnight prior to first day. He is difficult to work with and hardly responds.

For an intro class, there was a lot happening here and it really was never straightforward. Each week, there was a chapter of reading, four video lectures, two discussion board posts, and a quiz. Also, there were four four-page papers throughout the semester that were never mentioned on the syllabus and were never announced. Very disorganized.

The class was alright. It started off tough for me for some reason but ended nicely. The writing assignments I enjoyed. They were easy and do your work and participate and you should get an A. The weekly quizes were the only thing challenging for me due to the time limit, it put me in a panic the first few quizes but once I got the hang of it...

I took his class at QLU here in Panama City. I had a very negative experience. He teaches intercultural communication but made no effort to learn our culture or language. I asked him several questions and he would look at me and pretend he didn't hear me. He assigned hundreds of pages of reading per night, and was very lazy and rude to the class.

Hands down, the best prof in 'the ville.' This man is smart, funny, fair, and genuinely enjoys teaching. The COMM department is lucky to have him.

Lenient, but completely unreliable. Never responds to emails. Lazy when it comes to grading. Changed policy on weekly online quizzes without announcing because he was upset people weren't coming to class. (DO NOT TAKE 5:30-8:15!) Also changed final three times without announcing as well.

He is awesome, willing to teach and really tries to make things interesting. A lot of talking adn examples. I took the summer class, 2 weeks and 22 quizzes. Not easy at all, but if you read the book you will pass.

Follow the syllabus and do the assigned readings and you will have no problems with this class. There is a lot of reading and writing (since it is a WR class). Dr. F is very good about grading and returning work quickly.

201 is a cookie-cutter class. Everything you have to do is on the syllabus. Do those things, and you'll get an A.
