most boring class I ever took. gives quiz once a week, easy if you read. Only two exams. Forgets that even though he knows exactly what hes talking about, most students don't. no powerpoints, lecture outlines, strictly off the reading and lecture which I can usually find little correlation between. goes on long, irrelevant tangents.

Just don't take his class. You will be bored out of your mind. You won't understand anything he says due to the excess information he gives in his lectures. He also does not write on the boards. He shows up late and then takes 10 extra minutes past scheduled time. The reading is pointless as his tests are only off of his lectures. Don't do it.

Say what you will about the delivery of lectures by Dr. Smith, this guy knows his stuff. I thought participation was lively enough. Loved the incredibly cheap text book. Yes, quizzes are specific, tests are tough, and you have to actually do the reading, but he does curve. This is college folks, no easy grades and no one gets a 100. Stop whining!

You will regret it unless you have a burning passion to learn about political systems in a very uninteresting way. You will read from two unnecessary text books and unless you write and type faster than the speed of light, you will not get the notes you need for the midterm and final. You will also take a weekly quiz. Attendence is always graded.

WORST professor ever! He is very boring. He rambles on and on. No review for midterm/final. Gives quizzes every week on readings and the questions are very specific. He is not helpful at all. No powerpoint nor does he write notes on the board. He sits at the desk the entire class. Takes attendance EVERY class.

If you're just looking to pass and not learn, avoid Smith. But he's a true intellectual and challenges you to think critically. I feel like Smith gets the point of college that many students don't: not everything is supposed to be easy. You need to EARN a good grade. Do the reading, take lecture notes, participate! He curves the exams drastically.

The ost boring techer at ccsu. in one class every week he gives short quizes and lecture but in the other class he just lectures the entire time so their is almost no point in being their because lecture wont be on the short quizes. But he doesnt tell you that lecture wil be on the mid-term and final.

He is a great teacher, yes he sits downs and gives a pretty much boring lecture but if you are into politics his lectures are very interesting. He knows about american politics and the political systems of the world very well. There is quiz from assigned reading every week and 2 exams from the lectures and two exams. Easy class not to much work

He is a very boring monotone professor who just sits the whole time and talks. Very hard to follow sometimes. Weekly quizzes on readings that are very specific. Not much help when you ask for it, participation matters.

WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!! He sits in a chair all class and literally reads his notes doesn't write on the board because he has "back problems" quiz every monday on the readings except the readings is like 20 pages long and the quiz is 5 questions his lectures are EXTREMELY CONFUSING SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT TAKE ALAN SMITH!!!!!!!!!!

Really boring professor! Lectures are dull. He does no reviews for midterms or finals which makes it very hard since the majority of his exams come from his lectures. About 75% from the lectures and 25% from the books. He hates when student ask something from previous class lectures or mentioned earlier in class. DO NOT this class!

Most of the comments on this page are from unprepared Freshman who do not value the intellectual aptitude of this Yale educated political scholar. Dr. Smith grades extremely fairly and gives many opportunities for people to do well in the course. Dr. Smith is very dedicated to the course he taught. Very hard class. It is hard to stay awake. Very dull dry and boring. You must do the readings in order to get a good grade. He lectures the entire time and you have no idea what he'talking about most of the time. Everyone pretty much failed the midterm because he grades you on what he wants you to say. It is very biased. Don't take this class!!!!!!

Horrible, horrible. I'm barely passing the class. His lectures are long as he reads off a stack of his notes. Half the time I don't know what he's talking about. Most of everyone in my class failed the midterm. Very hard teacher.

Attendance counts for a lot. There isn't a real lot of reading but you must actually do all of it if you want to get a good grade. He gives quizzes every class that reading assignments are supposed to be done by. If you are not truly interested in PS I wouldn't take a class with Smith. He is a good guy but a rather boring professor.
