Dr. Smol is fair and well-spoken, and I learned a lot throughout her class. She stays on track and expects students to do the same. It's apparent through her lectures that she's very intelligent, though she's not at all arrogant or pretentious about it. A diplomatic and admirable prof.

Dr. Smol is an incredible professor! She'll proof-read any paper before you submit it and is always there to answer questions or give suggestions and she'll give you fair feedback. I'm not an english student, but I would love to take her class again. If you want to take this course, make sure you like reading poetry and play scripts!

Comment:

Anna Smol's only downfall is that her intelligence can be intimidating. She is an outstanding professor, she really enjoys what she does. This class really took me out of my comfort zone but she was very encouraging! She is definitely understanding, I asked for two extensions and she didn't hesitate to give them to me. I really learned a lot!

Absolutely nothing gets posted online and all she does is talk for the full class. If you miss a day, she has absolutely no sympathy for you or interest in helping you catch up. Will not allow anyone to leave the room for any reason while she is teaching. Goes quickly through all material and will no re-discuss later.

Anna Smol is the sweetest woman. She comes off as intimidating just because of her intelligence, this woman knows her stuff! You have to go to class, and she expects you to challenge yourself and do your best.

Dr. Smol is phenomenal and dedicated as a Tolkien and Medieval scholar. She is a fair marker, make does require a lot of readings, but is very open to creativity and new ideas. She changed my entire outlook on what I would like to pursue in my field of study.

The idea of Anna Smol being mean is laughable. Helpful and extremely approachable. I wasn't particularly interested in the subject matter, but found it relatively easy to exceed her expectations and do well in the class. I would not be dissuaded by the negative comments on here. If you are interested in the medieval period there is no one better.

I had her as a prof in the early 90's, and she was fabulous, as were all the English Professors I had at MSVU. Motivated and keenly interested in her subject matter, she encouraged intelligent discussion and participation. If anyone found her unhelpful and difficult, it's likely because they shouldn't have been in her class in the first place.

Cold hearted, rude, and made you feel stupid. Oh yea, going to get a drink...thats bad, email her before hand if you might be thirsty, because she needs to know prior to class...Cranky, and unless you were an English major, your screwed..

My whole life English was my strongest point, except for taking Anna Smol's class. No matter how hard you try she finds faults. Especially at a 2000 level class. If you don't want your GPA to suffer, don't take her.
