Professor Van is by far the best english teacher I have had at UNCG. Her lectures are never boring, and you never dread going to her class. I would say she is a fair grader, but if you don't do the readings she is going to call you on it. I simply could not recomend Professor Van highly enough. I wouldn't hesitate to take any class she had offered.

This was one of the many times I have taken classes with her. As always, it was great. I would recommend her. Her lectures are never boring. To me, her papers only require the student to think and be interesting so I don't find them that hard. I think the reading load is a lot and I would have liked more focus on fewer novels but overall, great!

Dr. Van is HILARIOUS and always interesting. If you read the material necessary for her class and pay attention you should be able to get a passing grade fairly easily. This is one professor whose class you do not want to miss.

Hilarious! Attendance was mandatory, but I looked forward to class, so thats fine. She knows what she's talking about, as far as lit goes... My favorite line ever, "Whats so great about being sane, anyway?" Don't know why she said it, but I laughed an awful lot.

I loved Professor Van's class! I had her for Victorian Literature...not my fave time period of lit, I came to find out, but she was able to make the class enjoyable none the less. She says that she grades pretty difficultly, but I never received anything less than a B-. She is absolutely helarious and I always looked forward to her class. Take it!!

Van is possibly the best professor in the UNCG English program; knowledgeable, fair, entertaining and easygoing, I've not had a better experience in any class. Attendance is huge, unless you've got the magic essay touch; either way, she expects you to work, but the material is interesting and comes easy. Lastly, three words: stone-cold FOX.

This lady is a great teacher. She's also very good at keeping you entertained for the entire hour and 15 minutes of class. Sometimes she can be ****ed and it can be awkward, but other then that she's a gem. Class time with Van is great. She's a hard grader, but she is willing to talk to you so that you give her what she wants.

AMAZING professor who really knows British lit! Keeps class upbeat, fun and relevant. Good selection of works to read. The few assignments, while not easy, are constructive. Tests are not hard if you read. Attendance and participation are HUGE, but she nor the class are intimidating. I actually looked forward to going to class!

Great teacher. Funny and makes class enjoyable but she definately expects participation and it's 20% of your grade (this also includes attendance). She will also call on students when she asks questions so if you don't like that beware. This class requires a ton of reading.

Mercurially slips between hilarious antics and probing observations. She knows her stuff. Allowed me to reconcile my deep hatred of pop culture and my deep love of English. Highly recommended.
