Great professor! He is probably my favorite professor here. He's really nice and friendly and extremely helpful. Classes consisted mostly of discussing the readings but I loved them. Papers weren't easy but not extremely hard as long as you went to class and did some of the reading.

My favorite prof at GVSU. Very intelligent man, knows his stuff, and is more than willing to work with you and help when you don't understand. Forces you to think outside the box, but always relates the lessons back to real world situations. Read the books and you will be fine.

Prof. Bickersteth is a great guy! I have had him for the past two semesters and I really enjoy being in his classes. He can get off topic at times but he is always willing to help. You have to pay attention in class and do the readings and you will be fine!

Really cool guy. I had no intrest in the class and he understood that and just wanted me to get though it. Will help you out in anyway and makes sure that you pass the class. A ton of reading though and confusing papers at times.

He can be quite unclear and hard to follow if you aren't used to his teaching. About halfway through the semester the class really picked up and I learned a ton from him. If you talk to him about your assignments/papers and participate in the class there it would be hard to get a bad grade!! Very nice man who really knows a lot about his subject!

I don't understand what he is talking about half the time. You analyze and re-analyze texts and he pulls the weirdest stuff out of them. He's always supportive of answers you give in class. He is a very nice person. But when it comes to essays, you can write a perfect one and he still finds a way to give you a B or C.

Good class, learned a lot, but not if you dont like to talk in class or read. also, this man cannot follow his own sylabus to save his life. can be very frustrating with the due dates of assignments.

This class did not present much of a challenge. The text he choose could have been better and often his assignments were unclear and contradictory. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you really love english. But if you just want to get by, then go ahead.

Shows up late everyday, never has his book or handouts, so he's always looking on with students or taking their book from them.Unorganized. Takes him 30 minutes to make a point because he is so confused himself. Frusterating. Harsh grader. Makes me not want to teach English anymore.

He is a great teacher when it comes to getting you to talk about and consider the texts. However, he tells you a certain way to do your paper and then when you do exactly as he says he criticizes it for lack of clarity or purpose. A slightly frustrating class because you think you're doing well until you do your papers and do very badly!

Probably great guy to have a beer with...however as a teacher it's another story. Prepare to abandon any hope of taking notes, comprehending bizarre texts, expressing opinions, or getting useful feedback on papers. One enters a confusing parallel universe in this class. An exhilarating trip, if you like the suspense of random info & grade outcomes.

Was 20 minutes late for the first class if that gives any indication about his organization. Says that he likes students who thinks for themselves and come up with their own topics, but when I went to talk about what I wanted to write about, he told me what he thought I should write about. One of the most frustrating professors I have ever had.

Text are fun, class discussions can get fun. He gets to know his students, but sticks to a lot of abstract that is really more interpritation. Not a hard class, but not an easy one either.

Its a pretty great class! It's an SWS and a gen ed, and is actually pretty interesting. Lots of reading, but only 4 (semi-difficult) essays total. He really likes themes and finding something deeper in literature and it shows in his classes, but he's a funny and cool guy. Keep up with reading and you'll be fine.

Great guy, great class. Quite a bit of reading. Quizzes can be hard, but if he knows you're reading he takes it into account. Very helpful w/ papers, allows re-writes. If you have any interest in English or literature it's a fun class. He's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Participation helps--he knows who doesn't read.

Comment:
Very boring, class did the same thing every single time, you get so bored that you stop caring about material. While the reading is good you find that what you want to talk about gets drowned out byhis 'themes' which are the same for every book. Easy, but annoying.
