I took sociology courses with Dr. Stone circa 1987 -- 1991. He was one of the best professors I've ever had-- thorough, insightful, smart. His courses had a lasting impact on how I understand social conditions. Bellah, Postman, Lasch, de Tocqueville, etc. I am now a professor at Winthrop and am still grateful for Dr. Stone. Take him!!

He is conservative (like many profs here). But he is crystal clear, and very good to students who engage the material. If you are interested in the material and do your work, you'll do great. If not, you might want to take something else.

Not a hard class, but I will not recommend taking his class. Avoid it if you can. There are pop quizzes and he expect you to read everyday. His lectures are very confusing and a lot of notes. Tests are not that hard but you need to do the homework.

One of the greatest professors I have ever had. He is clearly extremely intelligent and he can answer any questions that you have. Takes extra time EVERY class period to make sure that any questions or confusions are answered and cleared up. Really cares about the students doing well as well as the subject matter that he is teaching.

Good professor. He is not hard if you do the homework; his class was actually the easiest class I had. He is not rude or condescending, but some people sleep in his class and dont show up, so if he is, that is why!

I had him for first sem of COR 201 and hated every second of it. He is rude and condescending. I had about 10 pages worth of notes everyday. One good thing was that he would tell us some of the reading questions he was most definitely not going to ask so we didn't study them. But, the cons outweigh the pros and I will never take him again!

I had this prof for numerous undergraduate classes and this man butchered sociology in presentation of it (I'm in grad school in the field). What he teaches is pop culture, outdated theory, and political views. Also, he makes things as hard as possible (you should see the "note packet" he gives you to fill out before tests!)

i've been told he's better in sociology, but stone has no business teaching "human nature." he's fond of breaking down a philosophers beliefs to two or three one-word bullet points. he also touches students a lot, in a way that seems a tad creepy.

If you can avoid taking a class with this man, you should try. He is indeed condescending at times and I saw him go out of his way many times to make someone look like an ass. I tried to just keep my mouth shut. He does not give good notes in class and his tests are easy if you keep up with the reading and discussions. He has pop quizzes.

I absolutely loved this professor. I found him to be an interesting and insightful lecturer. Not condescending or rude at all. His tests were difficult, but if you pay attention in class, you will do fine. I found him to be helpful in class as well as outside of class. He really cares about his students, and is a very intelligent man.

I took a core class with Dr Stone and he was very unhelpful and vague. The class was "Human Nature and the Social Order I" and we had to read some archaic texts...and lots of them. he was not good at interpreting the meaning of these and his tests were thus very difficult.

OK, I may have been in only 1 of his classes, but if he was ever condescending in it, it was only because he was surrounded by complete and total MORONS. Yes, some of the material is boring, but that is not his fault and he tries his best. All you have to do to get him to listen and respect your opinion is say practically anything with even the barest shred of logic or proof to back it up. If you don't like his Core, it's probably because of the material, not him.

Represents his political beliefs as facts through the use of statistics (you can torture numbers to make them say anything), condescending, and not very interesting.

I took this class called Race, Class and Ethnicity. It was a class with all females and he was never condescending and always respected our opinions. It was one of the best classes I ever took at Oglethorpe. It was also not very hard as long as you did the reading and attended class. I would highly recommend this Professor.
