Lectures are very unusual and hard to follow. He goes off on many tangents making his lecture really confusing. He gives out 2-4 homework problems out a week to give you some points to boost your grade. Tests aren't too difficult if you do the homework and read a little from the textbook. No quizzes.

Dr. O'Neill can be confusing during class and will sometimes veer off topic so pay attention. Make sure that you do all homework on time and accurately because it is a huge part of your grade. Check answers online before you turn it in. Beware of going to office hours because this guy can be rude if you are confused. Very passionate with math!

Comment:

His homework assignments are great to boost your grade, but he grades them harshly if you don't do it exactly like he does. He will make you explain foiling to him for 20 minutes and count it wrong if it's not explained to his standard. This will happen even when you have all the steps and correct math AND answer. He is lonely and wants contact.

Dr. O'Neill is AMAZING. He LOVES math so much that he treats it with a special level of respect. He didn't just teach me diffy q, he taught me math all over again. Would 100% take again. Great with theory, examples and tests are exactly what was learned in class. He tells funny stories & makes funny observations about students. LOVE THIS TEACHER!!

There are many math teachers I would take over O'Neill, but he's not a bad teacher. Extremely Intelligent. He REALLY loves math. He effectively uses homework as a teaching tool and to help your grade. The downside is that he teaches exclusively from theory, not by practical example. It's hard to know what he expects you to be able to do on tests.

O'neill gives a ton of homework which can end up being around 40% of your grade, this would be fine if he didn't require you to come in and explain your problems if you don't do it his way exactly, even if your work is correct. It feels like your wasting a lot of your own time because of this. Other than this he is a good teacher

Alot of students rip on O'Neill for not liking his teaching style. It should be kept in mind that the man is honestly a genius and his random sidetracks in class is because he is so passionate about the topic, if you follow him you really start to get into the material. Again, to do that though you must show up to class.

His lectures take up the whole class. works though a lot in the time he has likes to get sidetracked and talk about odd things. knows what he is talking about and is easy to talk to if you need help

The lectures are decent; however, he will sometimes assume that everything makes sense and make assumptions that he deems obvious to everyone. The homework weighted to be as much as a test which was helpful. However, he would circle problems and have you come in to explain it to receive partial credit. He would be very impatient with explanations.

Dr. O'Neill is a nice old man with a lot of passion. Expect 3-5 homework assignments per week. The homework can take a long time and it's worth about half your grade but he accepts late work, homework usually corresponds to that day's class and most quiz problems come from the homework. Warning: he jumps around the textbook so don't miss class.

O'Neill expects higher quality work than most other professors here - I spent a lot of time studying for this class to learn the material. Tests are very difficult, so grades are balanced out by the large amount of homework.

This prof goes on daily tangents instead of addressing the course material, he gives homework that could end up taking hours to do because the answer is so obscure, and he makes you answer questions he has on homework on almost every turned in assignment.

This professor is a genius, but I feel he struggles teaching more of the theory based mathematics successfully. I would take him again for regular calculations based math rather than theory based. He really does want you to succeed though so if you are struggling you just have to see him for help when you don't understand and he will help you a lot

O'Neil has many mixed reviews. His teaching style is slow and methodical. Homework is graded, and there is a lot of it. The homework is also worth an absurd portion of your grade, so do it if you want to pass. No quizzes, only tests. O'Neil grades very particularly, your methods and solutions must be perfect. Take if you want to learn a lot.
