Prof.Schults is one of the older teacher on campus. Had he been younger I think he would of made a fabulous teacher for math. He stumbles at times during lectures when writing on the white-bread because he loses track of his thought pattern. If it weren't for that deficiency,we as students would have benefited tremendously as he is a great professor

Do you hate yourself? Then take Carl Schulz's math class! Unfortunately, nobody else teaches the two other classes that Schulz teaches, so if you're a math major, you have to suffer twice. He grades extremely easily, but you won't learn a thing in there which is sad because I feel like I'm just throwing money away by taking these classes.

The secret to getting an A in this class is to not schedule any other class right before his and go to his "office" hour (which takes place right before class) and do the homework problems he assigns every week. He practically gives you the answer! It's also a good way to meet your classmates doing the same thing and form study groups.

I honestly feel sorry for anyone who has to take MATH 311, let alone any other course, with Dr. Schulz...the department really needs to have someone like George Chackman teach it. Schulz is extremely scatter-brained, boring, unclear, and neglects many important ideas while teaching. Unless the dept has someone else teach it, good luck!

This classwork is easy, but you may want to know how to do proofs going into the class (MATH 317). He's very scattered in his teaching. He starts off the semester going off on any and every tangent but by the end he seems to get on track. If you read the book here and there to fill in you'll do fine.

He's extremely helpful. He may move a little fast sometimes, but he's always open for questions. You don't need to do the bookwork. Online homework is graded and helps you study for the tests. Tests are much easier than the homework and only have 10 questions each test.

He is the nicest professor I have come across at ODU. He is always willing to help you with any problems before, during, or after class, as well as on tests. If you do the problems in the book and the on-line homework, you will be fine. I highly recommend him. :)

I took this class and failed, but he isn't a bad teacher. I just didn't put in the amount of work needed to pass. When I had problems he was very willing to help even after class. Calculus is hard, but he grades pretty easily. If you do the homework, you will pass. I did learn about atomic bombs, and stocks:)

My second time taking the class, failed the first time with sum scotish teacher? I used my old notes and didnt do any bookwork. 4 tests 60%, final 25%, and online work 15%. the online work is time consuming but a good review. I calculated my grade to be a 72, but he did a curve at the end that got me a B! It's ok to ask for a lil help during tests!

I'm needing to spend extra money on a tutor because this guy cannot teach. I've learned more about our current economic crisis, French wine, and the atomic bomb, than actual Calculus. When he screws up a problem, he'll just change numbers in the original problem to "make it come out right."

He does digress into stories but they barely take a minute. He is a great teacher who knows math damn well. I dropped his class last semester b/c I did not study at first and was left in the dust. I plan on taking his class again because when I was in his class he did well to make things clear. Plus he is really funny and keeps your attention.

Two things to do to pass: Attend homework sessions and ask questions on the test. After taking Abstract Alg and Geometry, I still don't know what I learned from those classes. He tells a lot of off topic stories. He curses a lot but I don't mind. Sometimes he'll screw up on something and end class suddenly. What he states on what is on the test so vague and broad that you won't know what's on the test until it's right in front of you. It's great to get a happy face on a graded homework.

Pretty much wasted all the class time on stories that were not at all relevant to math. I was never very sure exactly what he expected for the exams. Half the class dropped out after the first test, and by the second test, we only had 1/3 of the class left. The subject matter is not that hard, but he didn't really teach anything.

HORRIBLE TEACHER! He likes to tell stories about nothing, he encourages consuming alcohol while studying, and anyone in a lower math class he calls stupid. I had to get a tutorfor this class, this has been the only time I needed one. The only good thing is his grading scale, somehow I managed to pass with his curve. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!

The class is really hard, especially if you are not strong in math. With that said Prof. Schulz, is a really nice man and if you seek help from him he will help you. I have taken this class more than once and finally passed MTH 200 with him. If you are not willing to put in the work, don't take this class and really any math class at ODU.

Avoid unless you're interested in studying independently. It was pointless to attend the lectures. Very little explaination of why things work. He does curve your final class grade.
