Awful professor, missed class a lot. Extremely unhelpful when asking for help. Never responds to emails and is unclear about all of her assignments. Half of the class dropped in the first couple weeks. Avoid her!

She is an awful professor! She assigns homework from the book that takes at least a couple of hours to complete. She assigns several BIG projects at once- most of the group projects but there are so many at once that you never know what is due when. She does not explain anything- she expects you to know what she is always talking about.

This class should not be about officework! We should be learning to be professional writers and not secretaries writing letters. The class would be better if it focused on the way professional writing happens in the 21st century. We even had to look for jobs in newspapers instead of Monster even though the bookstore doesn't sell newspapers any more.

If you didn't know anything about professional writing going into this class, you will be set for life when you come out. I have never learned more about practical-use writing before, but McLaughlin delivers the information in a quick, but comprehensive format that delivers exactly what it promises. You are ready for office work by the end!

She is the best fiction writing teacher I have had. She is challenging, but honest and expects that same honesty from all of her students regarding theirs and others' works. She is serious about writing well and about helping her students do well in their writing. McLaughlin is always available for help if any of her students needs it!

how can a business writing class not focus on the role of the web in professional writing? This would have been a good class 20 years ago. The class was mostly easy and was often cancelled or let out really early.

I took her Prose Writing class. She's good There were a lot of assignments in the beginning, she got them back right away. The second half of the semester there's less writing work but the work she does give is longer, like 7-11 pages. She cancels class a lot without notification. Gave me a lecture on missing three classes yet she missed way more.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PROFESSOR McCLAUGHLIN. SHE IS A POOR GRADER AND YOU ALWAYS HAVE A TON OF WORK BACK TO BACK CONSISTING OF LONG REPORTS, SHORT REPORTS A TON OF MEMOS, BOOK ASSIGNMENTS,A MAJOR PROJECT. & HER CLARITY ON THE WORK ASSIGNED IS VERY POOR. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!

the class is easy but useless because it is so basic. lots of group work. professor is never in her office hours and is annoyed and seems to go in a panic if you try to find her for feedback on a project. she didn't seem to be too focussed on our class

McLaughlin is passionate and serious with her work. However, the fact that she was best friends with the author we were studying in seminar made it impossible to criticize or question any of the material- it was pretty much just all of us praising him left and right, and those who disagreed, stayed silent.

I took 2 classes with her and they were so different. Creative writing was a 5--an awesome class. She was so friendly and she seemed interested in us and she cared. In prof writing (1) she was a different person. She didn't remember me. She acted bored and skipped class all the time--she just read old class notes and assigned group projects.

Writing Fiction w/ Prof McLaughlin was one of the best classes I have ever taken! She is truly invested in helping improve your skills & is an incredibly nice lady. I learned SO much in her class. It was a lot of work but worth it. She may not spell everything out for you-but at this level, we should be able to think for ourselves. Excellent prof!!

cancels class all the time at the last minute but doesn't tell u in advance which really sucks if u commute. same assignments as previous semesters so find someone who took the class already. she's lazy and obviously doesn't care too much, but class is easy. takes forever to get stuff back to you and doesn't have much to say aboutit when she does.

McLaughlin is a great professor. she does not treat her students like children. the class is very independent as any professional class should be. a lot of work outside of class but mostly group- oriented. you'll actually use the things you learn in this class but its hard work

I had my lit seminar with her, and it was pretty easy. Her appreciation and closeness to Baldwin really show, but really make for some awkward moments in class, and I felt uncomfortable to engage critically with works discussed as a result. I feel like we could have covered more in reading and discussion, but she's very kind and helpful...guess I
