Comment:
Dr. Keyes is a very interesting man if you give him a chance. At first, his lectures were very confusing but if you follow along, by the end of the semester they will make sense. I was lucky enough to have a good TA who was very helpful and led our review sessions as well as grading our exams. I would recommend reading his outlines on BlackBoard.

Comment:
Keyes talks for the whole class period and when you have a question, says he will get there, but never does. The TA grades assignments, so it the consistency between lectures and grading is non existent. The grading system is absurd; your individual grades are converted to the 4.0 scale then averaged to get a final 4.0 grade, which is inaccurate.

Keyes is an interesting man. If you're willing to listen to him, you will learn a lot, but you have to go to class. He assigns a good bit of reading assignments, but he covers them all thoroughly in the next class. It's easy to get a good grade if you pay attention and do the homework.

Comment:
Keyes only works for people who truly are interested in deep questions and are at an advanced level of inquiry. You will read a lot and think a lot. For tests, be ready to give text book answers about authors' views as well as your informed opinion. Much to learn from him if you can accept his personality.

Comment:
Talks too slow and doesn't explain anything thoroughly. Leaves half way through class and leaves his TA to do the rest. Midterm is 40% of the grade and final is 60% so don't bother with the few homework assignments he gives. If you can learn from the book on your own you really don't need to go to class. Overall: Awful. Do not recommend.

Dr. Keyes is a fine mind, that can get foggy when trying to teach. He is sometimes unclear but his saving grace is that it is easy to see how passionate he is about philosophy. The TA helps a lot but just read the text and everything will be alright.

If you want to take a class where the professor reads, word-for-word, what you already read from the textbook at the pacing of a kindergarten spelling lesson, then take this class. The TA is the only way I actually learned and was engaged in the class, which is disappointing since I was interested in the material.

350 characters isnt enough to explain keyes. he is just something else. but the TA knew all of this and he helped clarify A LOT of things. soo as long as there is a TA you should be fine .

In class, Charles Don Keyes's basic philosophical questions lecture is extremely hard to follow. Keyes is not entirely clear in his discussions, goes off topic a lot, and never fully answers questions the class asks. The text is required, but most important information can be found in his handouts, making attendance a chore.

DO NOT TAKE HIM. If you want to pass a class with a good grade, I highly suggest not to take him. He is legitimately crazy and probably shouldn't be teaching anymore because he is so old. His class is completely lecture and he doesn't have ANYTHING to support his lectures (i.e powerpoints, study guides) I had him for Philosophy of Death and Living

Had CDKeyes for Heidegger's Being and Time last semester. He is a sad, crazy man but brilliant professor. If philo isn't your thing stay away. If it is, take Keyes. Great lectures and insights into the text hes worked with for almost 25 years. He's odd, has outbursts, wears wolf shirts, is always covered in chalk but really is a genius. Thanks CDK!

Do NOT take any class this professor teaches. He is rude, incomprehensible, and unhelpful. His classes consist of him rambling on about texts he forces students to find (without telling them where to find it) among tons of other texts you'll never use, all of which are seemingly randomly named. If you care about your grade, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES!

Ridiculous. He's borderline senile and his lectures are practically worthless. He's incredibly unfair considering he raves about justice. I honestly would have learned more if I would have just read the book. It could have been interesting, thanks Chuck

social justice...stay away, claims to be able to fail anyone who misses one class, he knows the material but is unable to communicate it to the class. By fat the WORST teacher i have ever had. Hopefully a select few (whole class) will convicne the dean to force his retirement

This is the worst professor I have ever had. He expects WAY too much for a 200 level class. He was terribly rude to students and even forced a disabled student to withdraw because he needed to record lectures. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES. Don't listen to the people that call him a genius, he's just an old man that talks too much.

He's a good guy at heart. If you are really into philosophy you will love him... for all the rest of us - STAY AWAY!! Brutally hard to follow and overly eccentric. A simple yes or no question is incomprehensible for this man. All that being said, his wardrobe is second to none

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE: PHILOSOPHY OF SEX. NO. He has no organization, his lectures and what he expects you to know is unclear. Any questions asked that are too wordy, he just stares at you blankly and moves on. His exam is impossible (50% of grade) and covers things he says only in passing, but he wants you to write an essay about them.

Had him for Philosophy of Religion. Great class great professor! He is so well in the world of philosophy that he is able to connect every concept to every other concept, which for me, is what philosophy is all about. I took the class pass/fail so I was worried about grading at all and put minimal effort into tests and still got an A. Take him!

The funny thing about Dr. Keyes is that he always wears sandals with socks. Aside from that, though, he's a fine instructor.
