Comment:
His class is hard. There is no argument that it's a lot of work and he's a tough grader but in the end he truly wants his students to learn the material. He cares (in his own way) about the success of his students and if he sees you falling behind he's not afraid to reach out personally and try and get you caught up. He's tough but it was worth it.

Comment:
Professor Brown is arguably the worst professor at USNA. He is very intelligent, but his assignments are much tougher than the other CS faculty, borderline impossible for beginners. He is demeaning towards students that require more help in EI and demands respect when he doesn't give out any. Save your mental wellbeing and don't take his class.

Honestly was one of my more enjoyable classes at the Academy. Though he gets flake for being difficult, I think he covers topics very well. As long as you put in a little bit of interest he makes sure that you understand the concepts. Participation also helps in grasping what he talks about.

For a core class you would expect some kind of consistency in the difficulty between the teachers, not so with Brown. He leaves no class time for the labs so you will be doing it on your own, and he grades the common tests harder than other teachers. Expect to be in EI frequently for homework and labs. Bright but not helpful. Avoid

Brown is a teacher who wants to challenge his students and watch them succeed. He is a hard grader, but he takes his job seriously. He wants students to be critical thinkers, not brainless plug-n-chugers. He is helpful at all times, especially at EI. His classes are those where you "get what you worked for". Life's not an easy A, neither is he.

This man is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I have been so both civilian college and military school and his demeanor is acceptable at neither. He tries to one-up students, which is unprofessional and childish. Incredibly brilliant, but cannot explain things to those who aren't PhD's. Has to do parts of your lab, they are too hard.

It is unfortunate that he procreated. One class was enough for me to contemplate severing my own man-member. Grading homework is difficult for him so he resorts to red slashes and 'F' all over your homework. The answer to torture is simple people, no waterboarding, just send in the Brown Bomb he will make them scream FML.

HW- Brown gives hw almost every night, ranges from easy to impossible, but doesn't grade hard. LABS- Half the time they are full of errors, the other half of them you have to get him to type for you cause they're so difficult. Projects- Impossibly difficult. Tests- have started to become more reasonable than in the past. Brown is a Joe.

If you want to skate by and do the bare minimum for your grade then he's not for you. If you actually care about learning, being challenged and getting ready for grad school then he is the one you want. His classes challenge you, but he's always available for EI and cares a lot about his students. Easily the best prof I had at USNA.

Prof Brown is probably the worst teacher in the history of the Academy. His first year in 99, Prof Brown was an A** in class as well as EI. It is sad to see that Prof Brown still considers himself to be in the military although he has never been. I highly recommend against taking Prof Brown. Those power naps or afternoons off are not worth it!!

This guy is helpful in EI and his lecture notes are helpful. But those are the only things that put him above the average prof. If you're a joe you'd love Dr. Brown. He thinks he's in the military; he's ultra-strict and always has something smart to say about someone.

Awesome Prof. Always willing to stay after to help. I didn't have to open my book once, because he was so good about explaining things in class and posting his lecture notes on the net. HW was always relevant and it was graded on effort. Patient, but not tolerant of people who sleep.

Dr. Brown is probably the finest instructor that I have ever had. He takes the time to make sure that everyone who wants to learn will learn and learn well. He has taught 3 of my classes and has always taken the time to help those that want it. Those that complain always sleep through class.

Best computer science teacher at the Academy, possibly that I have ever had. Explains concepts in a clear and concise way. Grades HW on effort. HW is always pertinent and conducive to learning. No surprises on exams. Laid back in class as long as you are not sleeping.
