Comment:
The course was bland and I wasn't engaged for most of it. It's not difficult, but your grade is based only on 4 exams. Attendance isn't mandatory. She did say that if people in the class had an A after exam 3, you didn't need to take exam 4. Also I didn't buy the textbook and did just fine.

Dr. Hilliard is literally my most beloved Professor of all times. She has the unique quality of being both an absolute genius (first African American female to graduate from Harvard with a degree in African American studies) and also has tenderness, care & concern for students. Dr. Hilliard literally changed my life for the better.

Hilliard is the worst professor I've ever had. It took her over a month to teach anything even remotely related the the course subject. She goes off on random tangents that have nothing to do with anything and are full of incorrect information & flat-out lies. She's also extremely unorganized and unclear about everything like due dates & guidelines

She is kind of funny, absolutely PRECIOUS, and you can tell that she is incredibly intelligent. The problem is, she doesn't know how to teach. She goes off on super long, random tangents and what she does lecture on doesn't match the powerpoints at all. I wish she was a better professor, because I feel like she has so much knowledge to share!

My good sis has 2 Harvard degrees & a lifetime of experiential knowledge to offer. She RAMBLES, & the lectures do NOT go w the ppt bc if anyone asks a question she answers thoroughly and gets way off topic but SHE REMEMBERS EVERYTHING & tests over what she said word for word. ASK HER ABOUT LEMONADE! help her w the computer if you see her struggle!

Overall a good professor! You need the textbook for the class and it's essential you show up to class as there are pop quizzes. She curves fairly generously but make sure to read both the textbook and the powerpoint slides she uploads. The essay is difficult but as long as you work hard, you'll do well in the class.

Read the chapters, review the slides and you'll do fine on the quizzes and exams. There's a pretty steep curve. The term paper is the hardest part of the class, but not too bad. Dr. Hilliard is a bit all over the place in her lectures, but I liked this as we had good discussions. You can always read the book or slides for the facts and details.

Literally might be my worst instructor in all of my life. Sad thing she is a nice lady. She just does not know how to teach. She goes off on philosophical tangents. it would be better to just stay home and read the slides. She will change plans in the middle of the semester leaving you scratching your head at the level of disorganization.

She is a terrible communicator. I told her at the beginning of the semester that the bookstore did not have a book she needed us to read, and mid semester, she was shocked when I told her again. Her lectures are powerpoint, which makes it easier to understand when she goes on and on. Her tests are not the best, but it doesn't help without the book.

Her lectures can be seriously boring. 10 minutes in and I'm on my phone. But attendance is not required and she is a lenient grader so I say it's worth taking her class.

Lecture is boring, and it's hard not to fall asleep during er tangents. When she asks a student to answer a question, she'll tilt her head and go ,"hmmm no" and then ask the class if someone can answer the question, but who wants to, if the last person was wrong? Her questions are philosophical, and makes me question why I took this class

Dr. Hilliard is funny because she's one of the most intelligent professors at UNT, and at the same time the most scatterbrained. But it's seriously endearing. Sometimes her lectures veer off into philosophy, but those are the best classes when she does. The book is required, and tests are multiple choice.

Dr. Hilliard is exceedingly intelligent while she does go off on tangents and can be a little scatter-brained. She is a super easy grader and cares about her students learning. The 12-15 page paper can be a little rough but she is more than happy to help although you should know what a proper thesis looks like. Overall great professor.

Doctor Hilliard is quite intellectual. This was supposed to be an "African History" class, but felt like a post modernism class. Lecture seems scattered. There is a midterm/final/quizzes (all m/c) and a 10-12 page term paper and creative project. She seems intimidating, but not when one on one. 3 books requires for reading. Tests come from reading.

She is very intelligent and genuinely cares about her students. Unfortunately she talks about whatever she feels like and that is rarely history. She gives all the tests a ridiculous curve though and is an EXTREMELY lenient grader. She had the distinction of being both my favorite professor and my least favorite class the semester I took her.

Dr. Hilliard is probably one of the smartest teachers at UNT. Though she is a bit scatter brained, she does encourage students to think outside of the box and adds a philosophical edge to history. I've taken about 4-5 of her courses. The classes usually consist of a midterm, a final, and a 10-15 page research paper. Take her class!

(history 4260) IF you choose to attend class you will often wonder what the heck you are learning, definitely not history more like a philosophy of violence class. Only 4 grades total two tests term paper (10-12 page req) and a quiz. Prof mostly babbles and rarely teaches on subject, tests somewhat easy (big curve) you will need to read two books.
