I had this prof for my FYS (C.S. Lewis) and although he was very inspirational and is filled with wisdom, his grading criteria and syllabus were very unclear and assignments were often left open-ended.

Professor LaPorte is my all-time favorite prof! So genuinely caring, approachable, and intelligent. He values any kind of contribution, so don't be afraid to speak up. He is a pretty tough grader, but if you use your brain and not the night before a paper's due, you'll be fine. This is one of those life classes that (should) actually affect you:)

Laporte is a nice guy, but he's pretty flaky and likes to talk a lot. He's a strange one, so you'll be switching between containing hysterical laughter and being bored out of your mind. There is no in between.

This class makes my day. Prof Laporte uses class discussion effectively and meaningfully, which is unusual! He lets people's insights take the class diff. directions, but he also clarifies the key ideas. He makes every person feel so valuable by his enthusiasm for their points and keeps you entertained just by being himself and genuinely cares! :)

Prof LaPorte is literally amazing. His classes are extremely interesting and he makes you think about things in a way you never have before. He relates things so well to your personal life, and he is very kind and helpful if you go to his office hours. hes a good guy to talk to about life in general, even though he doesnt seem like he would be.

It is sometimes hard to understand his directions, but he does care. There is a lot of reading. He is very kind. I've heard he is better at running seminars than lectures. I could see how that would be the case. I had him for a seminar.

This class was not easy, but it is definitely do-able! Professor LaPorte is an incredibly good teacher, and he REALLY wants you to understand the material, and be able to relate to it in your personal life. He emphasizes the things you need to know for the exam, and gives many examples. Ask questions! He is very encouraging and isn't condescending!

I took this class my first year at hope, and although I was hesitant, professor laporte is a brilliant man with great insights. he relates well to students, and is very personal and friendly. he has had material published from Oxford and Cambridge, and has been a guest speaker at international lectures on philosophy topics. I highly recommend him.

Laporte is one of my worst profs at Hope. His reading assignments are huge and hard to understand. He doesn't give clear class or test expectations and the tests are fairly difficult. His class is really dry and boring. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, although he doesn't convey it well at all.
