Dr. Ryans Middle East politics class is a speciality of his and worth taking if youre interested in the subject. His exams were moderately difficult. You must study for them holistically. Robust notes from his lectures, digest the corresponding material from the textbook, and reading the articles he posts are important too. Essay & MC exams

Comment:

Dr. Ryan is very knowledgeable about the material in this class. I am not a political science major, so it was sometimes hard for me to follow the class since a lot of the people in the class were. However, he made me more interested in international politics. The class consists of 3 exams and a 10% participation grade, so make sure you study!

International Politics and Foreign Policy. Great class, Dr. Ryan is super knowledgeable. You have to read the textbook and articles posted on ASUlearn to get an A. Write down the vocab from the textbook and you're good. Take notes on both the lecture and the notes on the powerpoint. Sends out essay questions on test early. Easy A if you prepare

Curtis Ryan will not give your grade easily. Be ready to read the book and listen to what he has to say. That being said, he's an expert on his subject. Lectures are so interesting I don't wanna skip class and miss them. Study, read the book, and listen to his main points and you can make an A.

Comment:

Took two of his classes when I was at App and would've taken more if I stayed. He's like a rockstar in his field of academia. Super charismatic, super intelligent. Hard grader at first until you get the hang of what he's looking for in the essay tests. Wasn't until my second class with him that I was able to ace everything pretty easily.

Dr. Ryan is an awesome professor full of a dad-like sense of humor. The man definitely knows what he is talking about and is really interesting to listen to. Just make sure to take good notes and study and you should do great!

This professor knows a lot about the subjects; however, he is very tough for tests. There are four exams, and that is it. There is a TON of reading and work to do if you want to do well in this class. I worked the hardest in this class and received a B. My other classes were all As and A-s. Funny as well. Do not take if you do not expect to read.

An exceptional lecturer and a genuine guy too. I'm biased as a polisci major concentrating in intl' politics, but he truly makes a great effort in making the content relevant and he constructs his lectures in a way that engages everyone. The 3 tests we had constituted the bulk of our grade and they were rather difficult

Dr. Ryan was very funny during class. He knows a lot about foreign policies and international politics. I'm not a polisci major, but he teaches the course to where everyone can understand. Will stay on one powerpoint slide for majority of the class which is anxiety-inducing for me, but it's all good. Take him if you need GenEd credit

Dr. Ryan is the best professor I ever had. He really knows the material he's teaching and knows how to explain it in a way that everyone will understand. He's really funny and knows how to lighten the mood on such a sad topic. Take him!

Dr. Ryan is a gifted lecturer and just a great person in general. If it's about the Middle East, he knows it! While I wouldn't say he is organized, I never wanted to skip class because he is just that interesting. BUT DO THE READINGS! Always always always.

Although this class was not mandatory attendance, I never wanted to skip because I genuinely enjoyed the lessons he taught. I took international relations with him and this was my first political science class. Made material easy and made me excited to come to class and learn. Nicest guy!

If you get the chance to take an international class with Dr. Ryan- DO IT. This is his area of expertise and where his passions are. He tells dad jokes and makes lectures interesting. He makes everything easy to digest, and will take time to start the class with any questions from the precious session to ensure everyone understands the material.

Great professor, a little scatter brained, but he knows everything there is to know about the Middle East. Personally knows lots of famous Middle Eastern Leaders. It is all lectures, but his lectures are great

Dr. Ryan is a fantastic professor, and has inspired me to study this subject on my own time and get more involved in political debates with my colleagues. Although he doesn't cover all of the test-required topics in class, you will walk away from each session with so much useful knowledge. I would definitely recommend for both CJ&PS students alike.

I would recommend Ryan's class to anyone! He's a great guy and very interesting to listen to. His class is a mixture of lecture/discussion with Powerpoints to take notes from. His class is engaging and a GREAT gen ed to take.

Prof. Ryan is one of the best professors I have had in the Gov. and Justice studies department. He has had amazing experiences in the field which he discusses in class, and he presents information in a very engaging way. Classes always flew by and were very informative. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes.

Dr. Ryan's class was pretty fun yet super easy. You really never have to show up to class. He only has 3 exams and they're all based on the reading assignments. Going to class is still enjoyable though because he's really passionate about the subject and truly cares what his students think. Would most definitely recommend.
