I like Sensei as a person (kind of aloof but funny), but as a teacher she needs some work. Her class is not paced well, gives too much homework, and website is confusing. She wants you to learn as much as you can (and you do), but it causes her to speed through course materials. Often she doesnt know what she wants until you turn something in. .

Kano Sensei is an awesome professor! I have had her since JPN 101 and have really enjoyed being her student. Since Japanese is a difficult language, you have to be ready to study and work hard (but it is definitely worth it!). Kano Sensei's class is formatted in a way to help you succeed and do your best. I definitely recommend taking her class!

Kano sensei is tough. If you decide to take this class, you have to want to learn Japanese to succeed. Her Speaking with Natives project was talking with 2 native Japanese for 10 minutes and then creating a PowerPoint and giving a group presentation on what we talked about (in Japanese). My Japanese has improved, and all in all, Im glad I didit

She is a nice person who wants everyone to succeed, but keep in mind that she is Japanese and going to be harsh on you. She is disappointed in you if you don't do well or learn things outside of class. We did not learn new things in class at all, we had quizzes everyday and needed to keep up 100% outside of class. Japanese is worth it, but wow.

One of the best teachers I ever had. Her website can be a little confusing but there's a lot of great material on there. It's a difficult language so of course you have to be willing to put in the effort and keep up with the work. And she really cares about her students (even if she might not seem like it at first).

Kano sensei gives a lot of homework so be prepared to spend a lot of time studying outside of class. Go to EVERY class because absences have to be made up by going to a tutor. Late work isn't accepted except in certain cases. If you're late for a test that portion can't be made up. Participation is important and a part of the class grade.

Kano Sensei is very passionate and wants you to do well. She is proud of our progress and quite funny at times. There are workbook pages every night, and two sets of recorded conversations with native japanese speakers needed. Missed attendance must be made up. I hear she will not have a textbook required next semester (spring 2018).

Maybe I'm just a bit more used to her teaching, but I had a slightly easier time with this class than I did the first class. With that said, I still struggled. Expect a ton of homework and a fast paced class. However, she is a friendly person that seems to want you to do well.

I feel like Kano is getting a lot of criticism because of the work load. It's Japanese, what do you expect? She expects you to work hard, and if you stick with her for multiple semesters you'll see your Japanese improve dramatically because of her high standards. Her class is very, very enriching and rewarding if you put in the work!

She doesn't give partial credit on assignments very often. She give a lot of work and expect a quiz at least once a week. If you miss an assignment then you cannot get an A, and you will be lucky if you get a B. Not very patient with you if you are struggling to understand the material. Be prepared to teach yourself the information.

Sink or swim type of professor. She really makes you work for the grade and to learn the material here. Very strict attendance policy and a little unforgiving if you have a difficult time learning. If you have a hard time with foreign languages expect multiple visits to a tutor.

She's a nice person, worried about her students well being... outside the classroom. As a teacher if you're ahead I'm sure she's good at helping you understand it but if you aren't she seems to not care. She favors the students who know what they're doing, leaving everyone else behind. There's way too much homework but expects you to know Japanese

Kano sensei makes you work for your grade with all of the assignments that she gives, both in class and out. However, she is by no means a bad teacher: if you have a question she will answer you. What she doesn't like is the people who clearly slack off, and you can tell by the way she talks to them. Naturally the class won't be easy: it's Japanese

I really enjoy Kano Sensei's class. If you do your work and attend class, this class will be rewarding. You will learn a lot in a short period of time, but it is not overwhelming. Be prepared for a lot of out of the classroom work, and working with her website. Strict attendance policy, but classes are so fun you won't want to miss any anyways!

I adore Kano-sensei. She's hilarious and fair. I took all four JPN classes with her, and I can say that even if there can be a lot of work, it's useful. Just keep up with it and be active in class. I'm so sad that there's no more Japanese to take, honestly, but the 200-level classes aim to show you how to continue studying Japanese on your own.

My favorite professor ever. She tries to make sure everyone is able to keep up and is very helpful. Very good at explaining the material and has lots of examples and practices for quizzes and tests so you're prepared. I Highly Recommend her if you are serious about taking Japanese. If you want to do well you must take it seriously and do the work.

Kano Sensei is hands down my favorite Professor. She's hilarious and makes class interesting. Yes, she does assign quite a bit of homework and there are quizzes every week, but as long as you study it's really not that difficult of a class. As a minor in Japanese I recommend Japanese to anyone who needs to fulfill their language requirement!

This class is stupid hard. She basically expects you to already know Japanese before you are even in the class. I go to tutoring EVERY Monday because its so hard to keep up with. She expects you to learn WAY too much in one semester. DO NOT take this class. I do all my homework, study and go to tutor and its hard for me...

You must go to class. Even someone like me, who was making a perfect A, and understood everything had to go see a tutor twice (120min total) to make up for the 90min class. Me and the tutor had nothing to do, and she could have actually been helping someone who needed it. Take the test before the speaking part if given the option. Good teacher.
