Gandolfo is AMAZING. I had him for Africana PHL; there is reading every night and a short reflection, but it's 100% worth it and the discussion/lectures reinforce the material and make the content interesting. If you are engaged and do the assignments you will do well. LOVE Gandolfo. He isn't great at answering emails, tho- go see him in person.

LOVE THIS MAN! He really wants you to think deeply about your beliefs. Readings are manageable (and sparknotable) and the journal isn't hard if you keep up with it. He really wants to get to know you as a person and would love to talk to you about anything!

Avoid at all costs. He assigns 60 pages of reading per night and you must write 500 word journal entires on each chapter every single night before class. If you miss more than 3 classes your letter grade drops an entire point. There are no tests, just participation, your journals, and a final paper so theres no actual point of listening to lectures

Dr. Gandolfo is a great choice for introductory philosophy. He grades essays (there are 3) very leniently and journal entries are rarely (if ever) checked. The key to doing well in his class is participating--he really just wants his students to care about the material. Not a hard class, read and participate and you'll get an A.

He is a very great professor. All you do throughout the course is read short readings and write 300 word responses on them in a journal entry that he hardly looks at (you can submit the entries late and he won't notice) Easiest class I've taken at Furman so far.

The lectures and discussions were really awesome. Made me think about things I hadn't even thought to think about! And then made me realize that I NEED to think about them, that they're crucial. This was the perfect intro to college!

Good professor, Class is discussion based so speak up. Lots of reading and a little writing. You just have to write a short journal on each reading. There's also a term but my class wrote it as our exam. I really enjoyed his class.

Great professor. I've had him a few times, and I'm consistently challenged and forced to think and argue outside my comfort zone. Sometimes the class can be very frustrating, but you will definitely learn and grow a lot.

Gandolfo is such a wonderful teacher. There's a ton of work (reading, writing)but it's WORTH it. He cares for his students, is willing to spend time explaining or helping on papers, or just talking about what you want to do with your life. This course really helped me focus on how am I going to make my contribution to our world. TAKE IT!!

Good professor. Lectures weren't riveting, but were clear and on point. Be prepared to read and write. Short papers following readings were due around twice a week. Easy grading, though. I would recommend.

Gandolfo is beyond amazing. Originally, I took this class to fulfill a GER, but now I'm double majoring in Philosophy! He is fairly easy at grading. No tests, just papers. Class discussion is very important. I recommend him to anyone! He's worth the early class times, I promise!

Dr. Gandolfo is an amazing professor he wants to get to know each of his students on a personal level. Even though I am not that into philosophy he does not harshly grade. The class is a lot of work (writing and reading) but definitely manageable. Worth taking for sure!

Absolutely amazing guy. Participate in class, show a genuine, curious interest in what you're grappling with, and just prove to him that the class material is making an impact on you personally, you've got an A in the bag. Don't take advantage of that, though, the class is great if you really apply yourself. Great guy to get to know personally, too

Comment:
Gifted lecturer and passionate about subject matter, but most possibly the most arrogant professor at Furman. Demands presence at events outside of class even if you have another class. Made some kids in my class tell their other professors they had to miss their classes--even tried to get someone to miss a test! Not a bad professor otherwise.
