Good teacher, very amusing. Posts all his info online, has online quizzes be careful some of the questions have nothing to to with the class. Heavy ready but you have to do it all.

He talks very fast and won't give you enough time to copy down notes, bring a recorder to class. If you do not read, you will have a very hard time in the class. He offers Conversation Partner:Extra Credit... DO IT!!! Participate in class, he is not too nice to you if you don't. Ask the weird questions you have, he likes them, and you learn more

Hargreaves is really lecture heavy but on the plus side you could skip class since he posts his presentations online. He does go through things rather quickly so a person might need to look at the presentations anyways. There are not really any surprises in this class but he at times does grade heavily so one needs to look out for that.

This class completely changed the way I think about language. Incredible introduction to a field I was unfamiliar with before. Captivating lectures, wonderful sense of humor, Dr. Hargreaves is easy one of my favorite professors.

Great professor for a class that can seem daunting. A lot of information will be presented quite rapidly but Dr. Hargreaves only expects that a LING210 student gets the gist of the concept. Course grade is made up of a couple assignments, a midterm, a final, and five reading quizzes, each worth like 10-15% of the final grade -- lots of leeway.

Dr. Hargreaves is among my 5 favorite instructors of my college career thus far. NO busy work. Everything he has you do has a purpose & he gives you PLENTY of time to do it. There are few assignments to get done, but they're targeted to gauge your understanding. He's also hilarious & an all-around great man. PUT TIME INTO YOUR TWO 3X5 EXAM CARDS!!

This class blew my mind. He is great at using examples to make you understand some really difficult material. He also has a dry sense of humor, which I absolutely love. He's very clear on what will be asked on exams and dedicates a full class beforehand on how to organize your notes. I highly recommend.

About 60 pagesweek reading, and it's most definitely mandatory. Super interesting class, really makes you think, in a good way. Assignments and quizzes can be tough, but you can use notecards on the midterm and final. Not an easy A at all, but he is clear on expectations. If you have to take this class definitely take him over other professors.

Not very good. He skips around and if you ask a question he doesn't even give a direct answer. He is very anxious every class making his teaching sporadic. It seems like he doesn't even know his own slides. The subject is very abstract and reading the book only does so much, however he relies on it heavily.

At first Dr. Hargreaves was a little pushy moved through material really quickly. I felt that he got annoyed easily when students asked questions. However, as the term went by I realized that he is very helpful, but the subject itself is just very difficult. Great teacher and it helpful. He goes fast so you have to pay close attention.

Dr. H is very specific, yet the content is not a way that we normally think about language. He is really helpful and is always encouraging as well as open to review as much as students need! I have never liked to study language but this class is actually interesting.

Very good instructor. May need to be pestered, but will gladly answer all questions posed in class. Double check his moodle postings for spacy timelines because he's not techno-hip. Nice guy gentlemanly teacher.

was a pretty good teacher you did well if you attended class. Really hard to catch up if you miss, and unwilling to help much if you missed a class even if it was reasonable. He was much better than other linguistics teachers at western
