I actually like Kennedy. People complain his class is boring, but honestly he really cares about the success of his students. His lectures are a little dull, but he is very helpful with clarifying assignments. if you talk to him one on one. He is a very easy grader and a funny guy.

Answers questions clearly, and clearly states what will be on the exams. Not very much homework. The lectures don't cover everything that's in the readings, so just be sure to do the readings. Had us do one group project but it's very straightforward. Overall good experience.

I really enjoyed this class and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. He made it funny and entertaining and interacted with the class a lot. He is an easy grader and I genuinely felt like he cared about my grade in the class.

He is a good guy, who does care about his students. However, I couldn't follow his lectures and found it easier to learn on my own. He is pushy when it comes to answering questions, and that really bothered me. But there are only 3 exams which are around 1000 words each and they are take home so it's possible to do well in his class.

Comment:
Though it was an "easy" class, he was a very biased prof. He was extremly rude, almost to the point of harrassing students for their opinions on lectures and papers. Since it was a sociology course I expected an open mind and helpful professor, but he was anything but. Basically, just write papers based on his opinion rather than your own

Devereaux is the man! He is one of the better and funnier professors I have had at GVSU. He has 2 exams and a group project that you have to do and doesn't grade harshly by any means. As long as you actually read the material and take some notes on it, you will pass easily with at least a B. Take this professor and take this class! No textbooks!

Professor Kennedy is awesome! He is always willing to help students understand topics and is extremely helpful on papers as long as you're willing to take extra time to talk to him outside of class about it!! He is one of my favorite professors at Grand Valley and i highly recommend taking him! He is a great guy who wants his students to succeed!!!

Kennedy is very funny and a nice guy but his lectures drag on and he gets a bit annoying by the end of the semester. He is very helpful with your papers, and allows you to revise 2 papers but not the final. You do not need to go to class all the time. I would take him again.

This is an SWS class, so prepare to write. It is broken up into 3 papers of 1000 words each and you get to rewrite 2 of the 3 papers. He always gives you feedback, and will help you when you need it. If you do the papers on time and do the re-writes you should get an A. He is extremely helpful and takes whole class periods to help you write.

I have one word to give you about Dev Kennedy - AVOID! While he does try to be a good professor, his lectures are long. I have no idea why class is two days a week, probably because he only gets through 1 PP slide out of 30-40. To be honest, I have learned nothing regarding sociology from this course, which is sad, because I love sociology.

Really nice guy. He's very particular with his essay grading, but as long as you communicate with him, you'll receive a good grade. He loves quotes... use them! As long as you're willing to do the readings and work hard on your essays, you'll be happy with your grade.

I was extremely hesitant to take this class with Kennedy because of the ratings. But he was a really good prof. The class is extremely hard but he will help you out if you just go and ask him. I didn't like that our grade was only out of 2 papers but I would recommend him!

I took this class with zero interest in it and he still made it bearable. Virtually no homework, and he doesn't use class attendance against you, it's almost like extra credit. Lets you choose between the exam and a paper. He wants you to do well, and he's willing to help you how he can.

Dr.Kennedy is an extremely intelligent man who delivers highly enjoyable lectures. I enjoyed working with him. The material in this class is rather dry and some of the concepts can be hard to understand. It is focused on crime and punishment more than deviance and control; it is much more a CJ class than a SOC class.

Love Professor Kennedy! I have had him for soc 380 and 392- there is really no homework, except for readings, which he goes over in class, so i never read...doesn't take attendance. Only a mid term and Final, if you do the take home essays, if you dont do well the first time, he gives you a second chance. He is super laid back and nice.

Worst prof ever. Arrogant, rude, doesn't care about students. States attendance doesn't matter and then grades your work on your attendance. Has no issue humiliating and publicly disciplining students in class. Don't bother talking to him about it either- he will talk down to you, and he's never wrong. Treats his students like children.

This guy was awesome! Really made the course easier to digest in the three hour format, really funny and easy going! I would recommend this guy! We had two five page papers, and two exams, we also had to answer two oral questions. EASY A if you pay attention and do the readings!
